The Potomac School, an independent K-12 school in McLean, VA, seeks a Managing Editor and Communications Assistant to join the Communications Department. Job duties include working closely with the Director of Communications, publish twice yearly magazine, directing all aspects of development, including: develop story ideas for each issue; determine, assign and write content; hire and work with photographers to assign and select photos; edit copy; supervise and manage designer and printer, develop yearly Summer Programs brochure, write and edit news stories for weekly newsletter; develop content and edit the Potomac website, and other projects as time allows, and other duties as assigned.
A bachelor’s degree and 2+ years of related work experience are preferred. Candidates must have excellent writing and editing skills, excellent organizational skills, excellent interpersonal skills, the ability to handle multiple projects simultaneously; attention to detail and follow-through critical, the ability to work under pressure and meet tight deadlines, ability to establish priorities, solve problems, and a working knowledge of Potomac School faculty, alumni and students as well as school procedures and daily activities on campus. Candidates must also be skilled in various computer applications and social media.
