The Intern will work as an integral member of a multi-disciplinary engineering team to successfully execute complex projects to construct product supply chains for Merck. The candidate will play a technical role in manufacturing automation projects to ensure the projects are delivered at high quality, on time, and in budget. This includes following the project through all phases of a project life-cycle including concept, requirements, design, testing, installation, qualification, operation, and training. Responsibilities include the development of process and facility management controls for complex manufacturing processes in the sterile, vaccine, chemical, and pharmaceutical business areas.
The candidate will design, construct, test, and operate automated process equipment and building systems. Additionally, the candidate will service, trouble shoot, and solve engineering problems with processes, equipment, and controls already in operation. Process control and facility management technologies include: Distributed Control Systems (DCS) and Programmable Logic Controllers (PLC)Supervisory Control Systems (SCADA)Facility Automation Systems (FAS), including Building Automation, Fire Alarm, and Security Systems Process Data Management SystemsThis is a 9-11 week internship, beginning June 2013. A housing stipend will be provided to students who meet distance requirement.
Some local travel to NJ/PA may be required. Qualifications Required: Currently pursuing undergraduate or graduate degree in Chemical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Computer Engineering/Computer Science, or related discipline.Aptitude for and interest in working with computer technologies which automate manufacturing and facilities.Good interpersonal skills; proficient oral and written communications skills; desire to work in a team environment; ability to adapt to new technologies, business (situations), ability to adapt to a rapidly changing work environment, and ability to solve problems by creative application of new and existing technology, processes and information.Eligible to work in U.S. on a permanent basis (US Citizen or Permanent Resident) without sponsorshipMust be available for the period from June - August 2013.
