Pacific Biosciences is seeking a talented optical engineer to join our multi-disciplinary manufacturing engineering team to build the next generation genetic sequencing system. The job includes the design of optical test routines, fixtures, and tooling; the testing of complex optical sub-assemblies; interacting with design engineers and vendors; and working with assembly and integration technicians to generate production related documentation.
BS Optics, Physics, or EE or 5-10 years experience in optical system integration and test of opto-mechanical systems.
Experience with complex optical system alignment, test, and calibration a must.
Experience with optical metrology equipment (e.g. power meters, beam profilers, Wave-front Sensors, interferometers, CMM’s, oscilloscopes, etc) a must.
Knowledge of geometric optics, aberrations, and optical sensors a must.
Experience with lasers and cameras a must.
Experience developing test fixtures for optics sub-assemblies a must.
Experience with Solid Works or Zemax is a plus.
Experience documenting, writing and editing complex alignment and test procedures a must. Knowledge of standard optical documentation, test equipment and procedures a must.
Ability to read and understand mechanical drawings, Bills of Material, hand sketches, and written instructions.
Clear understanding of product life cycle, redlined manufacturing assemblies, and change orders.
Product development and/or industry experience in multi-disciplinary Biotech environment a plus.
Thorough understanding of standard optical, mechanical, electronic, and software troubleshooting processes a must.
Experience working with optical vendors and outsourcing complex sub assemblies is required.
Willingness to work overtime as necessary.
