How you will contribute
Valmont is currently seeking a highly motivated and talented individual for the Manufacturing Engineer position in the Global Utility Division . We are looking for a highly driven individual that will be responsible for the improvement of manufacturing processes and methods of production. The position requires the ability to plan the practices of manufacturing; to research and develop the tools, processes, machines, and equipment; and to integrate the facilities and systems for producing quality products in a timely fashion.   • Document procedures, when necessary, to ensure adoption of best practices or methods and to facilitate/support training at all Utility sites
  • Organize and formalize operational and equipment needs for the Utility Division manufacturing sites, including Maintenance records, Spare parts sharing, and Preventive maintenance programs through TPM
  • Assist in identifying and coordinating resources for expertise with the various pieces of critical production equipment
  • Work as a project manager and/or team leader on manufacturing engineering related issues
  • Solve engineering problems associated with welding, gas cutting, plasma cutting, press working, machining, tube manufacturing, and other equipment operations
  • Assist in the development of short and long term capital budget plans
  • Specify and/or design new tooling, equipment, and method modifications to improve cost, safety, and quality of products
  • Utilize Computer Aided Drafting (CAD) technologies to assist in engineering problem solving
  • Support and work with the Site Lean Teams
  • Implement process change by applying Lean Manufacturing principles, methodologies and tools to reduce waste, reduce cycle time, and improve productivity
  • Facilitate process improvement by applying Lean tools: such as Whole-Fish, Impact-Control, A Delta T, Standard Work Sheets, Process Flow Charts, Plan-Do-Check-Act, 5-W’s, W31’s, etc.
  • Design and balance work cell flow using Lean principles and methods to increase productivity and reduce waste
  • Support all initiatives related to the manufacturing processes
  • Support all operations by helping to create labor and cost standards, create Bills of Materials and Routings, process supplier quotes, and assist in material flow and handling systems as required
What it takes
Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in manufacturing or industrial engineering or a related field
  • One year of previous experience in manufacturing or industrial engineering or related position
  • One year of previous experience as a project manager and/or team leader
  • The ability to travel domestically
  • Proven ability to effectively apply Lean Manufacturing principles, methodologies and tools in a manufacturing environment
  • Proven history of problem solving in an environment involving: welding, gas cutting, plasma cutting, press working, machining, planning, and concrete operations
  • Proven ability to effectively lead improvement teams
  • Excellent communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills
  • A strong working knowledge of Microsoft Word, Microsoft Excel, Microsoft PowerPoint and, Microsoft Outlook
  • A strong working knowledge of computer-driven manufacturing systems
Highly qualified candidates will also possess:
  • Three years of previous experience in manufacturing or industrial engineering
  • Experience with AutoCAD
  • The ability to effectively interpret and present information both one-on-one and in front of an audience
  • The ability to communicate and interact with coworkers in a positive manner
  • Must be a person of passion and integrity who has the drive to excel and deliver exceptional results
