The responsibility of the Operations Manager is to lead the daily production of the operations and maintenance staff by leading improvement initiatives to meet key business objectives of product quality, manufacturing cost reduction, product delivery, capacity growth, equipment reliability and productivity improvement. This is typically accomplished through the efficient management of production resources such as production and maintenance employees, equipment, materials, and time.

Essential Responsibilities
  • Be responsible for time and attendance management, performance reviews and conflict resolution for production employees within assigned department
  • Be responsible for the management of indirect expenses to assure budget is achieved
  • Work closely with Corporate Engineering and act as Project Manager for all capital expenditures
  • Ensure that resources committed to executing the production schedule will do so in such a manner that customer requirements are met while critical business metrics, such as productivity and overtime costs are optimized
  • Work closely with the Quality Manager by providing the staffing and equipment time to support their quality improvement efforts
  • Coordinate efforts with Maintenance personnel, communicate plans and contingencies to production personnel and follow up on the adherence to any written deviations
  • Be responsible for work assignment of all assigned production employees
  • Audit, update and approve Company and Department Policies and Procedures to assure absolute compliance
  • Communicate daily to all shifts of production schedule and issues
  • Troubleshoot production problems, whether process or material issues, and implement corrections through required change control to minimize impact to production and eliminate root cause
  • Coordinate training of production employees to ensure all shifts are capable of supporting the production schedule
  • Delegate appropriate responsibilities to production employees, empower them to perform these responsibilities, and then hold them accountable for their performance
  • Know daily production metrics and make necessary changes in staffing, work assignments, schedule, and equipment to assure goals are met
  • Support an environment of team based continuous improvement
  • Determine root cause and implement corrective action through required change control for any assigned customer quality issues
  • Review and input all work orders and elevate changes as required by the Plant Manager
  • Maintain an hourly employee review system that is objective and consistent
  • Ensure compliance of production employees regarding current Quality Management Systems (cGMP, ISO, etc.)
  • Ensure that all employees are in compliance with HSE (Heath, Safety, And Environment) policies, procedures, and regulations as required
  • Recruit, train, develop, and lead group leaders, and all assigned production operators
  • Manage projects directly related to improved product quality, process capability, productivity and yields
  • Work with internal and external customers to develop Critical to Quality Elements (CTQs) of chemical products, translating them into CTQs with regard to end use performance
  • Work closely with Environmental Health & Safety (EHS) to ensure strict compliance to Strom Water Pollution Prevention Plan (SWPPP), Spill Prevention, Control, and Countermeasure (SPCC) and all other applicable environmental permits
  • Participate and lead all local Safety Teams and committees
  • In the absence of the plant manager, direct work of the other plant leaders such as EHS Manager and Maintenance Manager

    Qualifications/Requirements
  • Bachelor's Degree in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, or Mechanical Engineering, or Operations Management
  • Detailed knowledge of manufacturing processes typically gained through a minimum of 5 years of experience in relevant manufacturing environment, and at least one of the following general positions:
    -Supervision
    -Material Control
    -Production Engineer
    -Maintenance Manager
    -Working knowledge and ability to use the following tools:
    -SPC
    -Process Mapping
    -Cause and Effect Diagrams
    -Systematic Approach (problem solving method)
    -Microsoft Access, Word, Power Point and Excel
    -Minitab software
    -Microsoft Project
    -SAP
    -Lean Manufacturing
    -ISO Standards
    -Root Cause/ Corrective Action Analysis
    -Change Control, MOC
    -Six Sigma
    -Defining and addressing process capabilities

    Additional Eligibility Qualifications

    Desired Characteristics
  • Master’s Degree in Chemistry, Chemical, Mechanical or Electrical Engineering, Operations Management or Masters of Business Administration
  • Six Sigma certified, preferably Black Belt (GE Candidates only)
  • Payroll time and attendance system experience (Kronos)
  • Strong employee relation’s skills, including coaching and communication
  • Working Knowledge of SAP, Root Cause / Corrective Action Analysis, ISO Standards, and Cause and Effect Diagrams
  • Capable of independently completing MOC and all aspects of required change control and Engineering Reports
  • Demonstrated strong ability to train and mentor production employees
  • Strong analytical, statistical, and problem solving skills (Six Sigma Green Belt or willingness to achieve) Why join one great company when you can join many?
