PURPOSE & OBJECTIVE
Responsible for performing routine and emergency maintenance on high-speed automated manufacturing equipment. Performs various process improvements of machines and equipment, including molding/extrusion through packaging. Participation in troubleshooting, process improvement, and new equipment installation.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
Troubleshoots equipment breakdowns and performs mechanical, pneumatic, and electrical maintenance whenever required to ensure uninterrupted customer supply. Repairs, rebuilds, adjusts, inspects, and monitors production and/or facility related equipment and machinery. Provides shift coverage and support to Manufacturing operations. Completes required preventive maintenance at defined intervals. Champions Preventive Maintenance/TPM process implementation for product team. Routinely assesses the suitability of such intervals and scope covered and revises when necessary. Works with Quality and Engineering to document repairs/changes made to equipment. Identifies critical spare parts to have on-hand to prevent extended machine downtime. Maintains an adequate spare parts inventory to support manufacturing operations – uses electronic means to track on-hand quantities, part numbers, and other reorder data. Supports validations from a mechanical support perspective. Supports all capital equipment projects (as the subject matter expert (SME) for maintenance) including specification, design input, testing, etc. Perform maintenance tracking activities in SAP. Procures replacement parts in support of preventive maintenance or proactive replacement efforts. Participates in Kaizen and Lean activities as necessary to drive continuous improvement initiatives. Builds departmental bench-strength in addressing mechanical issues through continuous mentoring to drive technician ownership of routine maintenance. Complies with safety standards including Lock-Out/Tag-Out and Zero-Energy. Complies with training in all manufacturing areas. Handles hazardous waste as appropriate. Performs other duties as required to meet the needs of the department and company. Works on assignments that vary in nature from semi-routine mechanical maintenance to more complex troubleshooting of controls circuitry. Uses independent judgment and critical thought processes to analyze, troubleshoot and repair complex equipment and machinery. Works on assigned shift (potentially rotating 12 hour shift) to support continuous production. Works independently with minimal supervision. Reads and interprets blueprints, electrical schematics, technical manuals, pneumatic schematics, and equipment specifications. Provides guidance to less experienced technicians. Interacts constructively as a team member in a team environment, supporting team goals and objectives. Has the ability to effectively make decisions relative to job duties/responsibilities. Provides technical support to engineering team on equipment installations and upgrades.
Exposure to high voltage. Capable of lifting, pushing, pulling or moving of equipment and machinery up to 25 pounds repetitively, up to 65 pounds non-repetitively. Exposure to fumes and high frequency noise in manufacturing areas. Safety glasses and hearing protection are required on the manufacturing floor and other designated areas. Adherence to plant safety requirements, OSHA and QSR/GMP/ISO guidelines as applicable.
High School Diploma/GED with 6 or more years of experience with equipment maintenance in a manufacturing environment or Associate’s degree in Electrical, Instrumentation, or Mechanical field with 3-5 years experience with equipment maintenance in a manufacturing environment. Ability to lift, push, pull, or move up to 25 pounds repetitively, up to 65 pounds non-repetitively. Proficient in the use of a PC to troubleshoot equipment Proficient in MS Excel & Word applications Previous work experience with Allen-Bradley or Siemens Programmable Logic Controllers (PLCs) and making modifications to Ladder Logic Previous experience with automated equipment assembly/disassembly Previous work experience in an FDA or ISO regulated environment
FDA compliant manufacturing experience Green Belt Certification Experience with Lean Methodologies Experience with automated vision systems Previous experience with injection molding, plastic and extrusion Previous experience with welding, basic machining (lathes, drill presses, etc.) Previous work experience with servo drive systems – preferably Allen-Bradley
