The Market Insight and Strategy (MI&S) Manager plans, leads and executes critical market research initiatives to help shape business decisions and strategic choices for Eastman's growth. Critical aspects of the position are to:
Generate insights and in-depth analysis on customer, market and competitive forces.
Influence strategy development for Eastman's new market, application and product development activities.
Shape business segment strategies, technology approaches and product offerings.
The MI&S Manager's key responsibility is to close critical knowledge gaps by providing strategic insights.
Support the global Medical and Durables plastics growth initiatives by being a key segment team member, providing market research, opportunity assessment, and strategic insights to the Specialty Plastics business leadership team (SPBO).
Identify knowledge gaps, manage and lead research projects to support business initiatives:
Proactively develop scope, recommend research strategies / methodologies, and lead projects to close defined knowledge gaps.
Conduct secondary research to address specific business requirements.
Identify, evaluate, prioritize and work with primary market research companies to determine best fit for project outsourcing.
Develop a market research "road map" to effectively communicate resource needs and project timing of the deliverables.
Manage research projects from selection of primary research consultant to ensuring deliverables are fully met, including projects' budgets, timing and targeted knowledge gaps.
Effectively utilize internal / external resources to deliver market / customer / competitor insight within agreed-to project timelines.
Translate research findings into concise insights, implications and recommendations.
Become an "expert" on research tools, framework and processes; leverage credibility within the organization; and develop relationships to influence key business decisions.
Clearly be able to articulate knowledge gaps and ensure project resources (internal and/or external) and scopes are aligned with the business needs, expectations and deliverables.
BS / BA required
Advanced degree in market research or MBA preferred
15% travel is required for this position
Proven hands-on experience in primary and secondary research methodology, analysis and reporting
Experience in: managing outside research partners, project management, and inspiring actions from insights
Strategic thinker with strong collaboration, interpersonal, team skills
Ability to work in a fast-paced matrix-based environment with multiple, competing priorities
Excellent written and verbal communication skills
Additional desired characteristics:
Technical degree or knowledge of chemical processes and technologies.
Experience in plastics for the medical and durable applications.
