This position is responsible for developing and delivering comprehensive communication strategies, including marketing, for the Center for Leadership in Global Sustainability (CLiGS) at Virginia Techâ??s College of Natural Resources and Environment in the National Capital Region and internationally. Manages the marketing objectives of CLiGS by developing strategic marketing programs and/or marketing objectives. Develops and delivers effective messages to target audiences using a range of media that will promote CLiGS research, education, and engagement programs. Develops annual schedule of projects and timeline for each project. Manages designers, vendors, and internal and external constituents to insure timely completion of each project. Creates and/or manages the creation of electronically produced publications, advertisement, logos, display materials, collateral pieces and production-ready art for use on local, regional, state, and national levels. Write, and when necessary, purchase copy for such communications pieces. Position reports to the Assistant Director.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelorâ??s degree or equivalent training and or experience in marketing, communications or related field; -Significant writing experience that demonstrates writing skills and proficiency across multiple platforms; -Previous marketing and communications experience; -Superior communication skills; -Experience in publication activities including writing, designing, and preparing materials for websites, blogs, brochures, newsletters, press releases, etc; -Excellent interpersonal, time management, organizational, administrative, and telephone communication skills; -Must be self-motivated and must be able to work both independently and as part of a team; -Demonstrated ability to manage projects independently and handle multiple tasks; -Ability to work with and manage internal and external service providers (designers, photographers, webmasters, etc.); -Comprehensive knowledge and experience using PC and/or Macintosh computer; -Ability to learn and maintain new software or computer skills to fulfill job requirements as identified; -Experience using applications such as Microsoft Office Suite, Google Apps, Wordpress or other CMS products, and design software such as Adobe Photoshop, In-Design, Illustrator, etc.
Preferred Qualifications

  • Web design knowledge & experience - i.e. HTML/ CSS, JavaScript, Dreamweaver; -A/V production knowledge & experience - i.e. video production, FinalCutPro, Audacity, podcasting.
