KEXP SEEKS MARKETING DIRECTOR

Friends of KEXP is currently seeking applicants to lead KEXPs marketing program! KEXP is committed to helping music lovers discover their next favorite artist, and we need your help to enrich more peoples lives through music and discovery.

The KEXP Marketing Director is a full-time, exempt position primarily focused on growing the KEXP audience and building the KEXP brand within the community.

KEXP is a Seattle-based non-commercial radio station that produces an award-winning, innovative blend of music that promotes discovery among its worldwide audience. With a library of more than 35,000 CDs and 12,000 records, KEXPs 45 DJs have the creative authority to curate their own shows - in rock, hip hop, electronic, country, blues, world, and more.

Marketing Director

Position Status: Regular, Full-Time

Position Summary: The Marketing Director is primarily focused on building the KEXP brand and growing the KEXP audience. This position is responsible for developing and executing all of KEXPs marketing and branding strategies and activities, ensuring effective collaboration across departments to achieve KEXPs marketing goals for the Broadcast and Online Services, which include high quality public service and the growth of KEXPs audience and revenue. The KEXP Marketing Director is a member of the KEXP Leadership Team and reports to the Executive Director.

Essential duties include, but are not limited to:
*Responsible for creating, managing, executing, and achieving annual and multi-year marketing and branding goals for the KEXP Broadcast Service and the KEXP Online Service.
*Develops the annual KEXP marketing plan with clear strategies, supporting tactics, and transparent key performance indicators for assessing performance against marketing and branding goals.
*Creates time lines and budgets for marketing activities and achieves maximum results with organizational resources.
*Develops and directs marketing and branding campaigns for KEXP and its Broadcast Service and Online Service, and ensures that all campaigns are executed effectively and in a timely, detail-oriented manner.
Ensures that all KEXP marketing activities are consistent with and in-line with KEXPs curatorial aesthetic and its key values.
*Develops sponsorship and promotional strategies and tactics (with a particular focus on strategic partnerships) to achieve branding and audience building goals, and ensures those strategies and tactics are executed.
*Directs the external communications process, including the creation, approval, and distribution of promotional messaging; ensures a consistent editorial voice and aesthetic.
*Collaborates with organizational stakeholders to build effective on-air and online campaigns.
*Communicates effectively with the organization about KEXP marketing and branding activities; ensures all staff has appropriate information needed for effective communication with their own constituencies.
*Develops earned media opportunities, oversees creation of press releases, builds effective strategies for using earned media to grow audience.
*Manages all all press requests, schedules interviews with staff, and ensures effective preparation and follow up are applied at all times.
*Directs the creation, design, proofing, placement, and distribution of all KEXP promotional collateral, including print and online advertising.
*Assesses and reports on performance against goals to internal and external stakeholders, with a particular focus on quantitative and qualitative analytics, and return-on-investment.
*Grows and maintains effective relationships with media and community partners.

General Organizational Responsibilities:
*Maintains thorough understanding of KEXP organizational policies, including employee handbook; follows policies and leads by example.
*Ensures that all expenditures under the Marketing Directors purview are in line with and reported according to KEXP policies; meets all fiscal reporting deadlines as set forth by organization, including the timely submission of expense reports by self and all direct reports (if applicable).
*Manages payroll submission for self and all direct reports (if applicable) in compliance with KEXP policies, including timely submission of payroll for processing and arranging appropriate coverage of payroll obligations while out of office.

Non-essential duties:
*Assists with other organizational activities as directed.

Supervision Received: Position reports to the Executive Director.

Supervision Exercised: Position supervises Marketing interns/volunteers.

Educational Qualifications: Bachelors degree and five or more years of related experience and proven success in marketing, communications, and business development; or an equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties of the job as listed above.

Position Qualifications:
*Demonstrated excellent interpersonal, presentation, relationship-building, and communication skills - both written and verbal - which transcend diverse audiences.
*Proven experience in recruiting, retaining, and leading dynamic and talented people to build superior teams.
*Proven experience in successfully managing teams, including the ability to set and achieve individual as well as departmental goals, and to mentor and manage performance for all team members.
*Must be able to work an irregular schedule, including evenings or weekends as needed and additional hours during peak times, or as required.
*Valid Washington State Driver's License, as minimal local travel is required for night and weekend coverage at events; some in- and/or out-of-state travel may also be required.
*Frequently moves event supplies and promotional items weighing up to 25 pounds.
*Outstanding attention to detail.
*Commitment to maintain confidentiality and a high degree of accuracy.
*Ability to take initiative and use independent judgment within established policy and procedural guidelines.
*Strong self-motivation and independence in carrying out responsibilities, organizing and prioritizing multiple tasks, and meeting deadlines.
*Demonstrated ability to work effectively in teams, as well as provide consistent, high-quality service to a wide variety of internal and external constituents.
*Demonstrated ability to maintain a professional demeanor, especially while working in a fast-paced environment of constant demands and frequent interruptions.
*Demonstrated ability to work effectively with people of diverse backgrounds and promote a positive working environment, spirit of cooperation, and positive reactions to change and conflict resolution.
*Ability to understand, appreciate, interpret, and express KEXPs programming and mission to both internal and external clientele.
*Ability to embody the community-oriented spirit of KEXP to both internal and external constituents.
