Establishes and maintains positive relationships with faculty; builds industry relations with companies with the intention of creating collaborations and USA technology licenses; reviews invention disclosures to identify commercial product scenarios and unique features and benefits; evaluates the market potential of inventions, including market size dynamics, the market need addressed by the invention, its competitive position and barriers to entering the marketplace; determines an invention’s current state of development and its future development path; recommends a technology transfer path for new inventions (e.g., patents, waiver rights, assignment rights to inventors); collaborates with Associate Director, Inventor, and Intellectual Property (IP) Counsel to develop IP protection strategies; provides targeted marketing to companies, initiates company contacts, and develops relationships with key company licensing personnel; identifies and qualifies potential licensing opportunities and licensees; conducts sales activities to successfully transfer USA technologies to outside entities for development and commercialization; negotiates licensing agreements, including agreements that are especially complicated and require a high degree of technology licensing skill; works with entrepreneurs, venture capitalists, inventors, and funding agencies to assist with the creation of start-up companies to license and advance USA technologies; maintains current market knowledge and familiarity and an understanding of market areas and the development pipeline of potential licensees; regular and prompt attendance; ability to work schedule as defined and additional hours as required; and related duties as required.
Master's degree in a directly related field from an accredited institution as approved and accepted by the University of South Alabama. A master’s degree in business administration is preferred. J.D. or Ph.D. is preferred.
