Promotes all Community Resources (CR) programs, facilities and endeavors though a variety of means including management of printed materials, advertising, social media, the Internet and other public relations marketing tools. Seeks new ways to promote programs in a cost-effective manner.
Major Tasks, Duties, and Responsibilities:
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS (Major Tasks, Duties and Responsibilities)
Oversees the development of Community Resources web content, including page architecture, writing copy, site design and features. Serves as Department’s liaison with the City for the website.
Responsible for the supervision of the Temporary Part-Time Website Assistant.
Conducts ongoing analysis of web content using analytical tools such as Google Analytics to maintain relevancy of content.
Oversees the Department’s social media efforts. Works with each division to develop and maintain relevant and dynamic social media programs. Coordinates with City Manager’s Office.
Conducts media research to determine target audiences for CR Department Programs and Services.
Works cooperatively with each Division in the Department to identify media resources based on target markets, plan and execute effective marketing campaigns.
Manages advertising budgets. Develops advertising schedule, reviews pricing and evaluates results.
Conducts copy editing of text submitted by staff including flyers, postcards, articles, e-newsletters and the Bravo, Classes and Community Connection brochures.
Creates advertising flyers, brochures, postcards and invitations as necessary to support Department programs and services.
Assists in the design and distribution of electronic communication
Prepares and/or coordinates the development of press releases within established formats.
Establishes and follows approval processes within the Department and with the City Manager’s Office for approvals.
Maintains an active role in the marketing and special events network implementing new ideas as may be appropriate.
Maintains work flow and scheduling systems and spreadsheets.
Responsible for the direct oversight of ad design, review and placement.
Plans and facilitates monthly multi-division marketing meetings.
Must be able to interact with others in a positive manner.
Requires regular and prompt attendance.
Works with other members of the CR Department, other departments, other agencies, and the business community to effectively plan and promote activities.
Assists in preparing marketing related information for written proposals.
Develops a strong network with regional media through frequent interaction/requests for promotion of CR activities.
ESSENTIAL QUALIFICATIONS (Knowledge, Skills and Abilities)
Bachelor’s Degree in Marketing, Business, Communication or related field.
Five or more years work experience in marketing, public relations or advertising. Must also have some experience with current office business practices.
One year of experience taking projects from inception to completion with minimal supervision.
At least one year of experience with website content management systems and web-based technologies. Prefer experience marketing recreation, golf course and cultural programs that may be found in a government setting. Prefer two years work experience as a supervisor.
Prefer a valid driver’s license and good motor vehicle record.
Receives direct supervision from the Marketing and Community Relations Administrator

Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
Excellent computer skills as well as ability to work with computer programs related to photo editing and page layout programs.
Clear understanding and working knowledge of the principles and practices of marketing and application of these skills to support cultural, community-based programming.
Ability to demonstrate appropriate organizational/interpersonal skills including the ability to work with a variety of people.
Strong organizational and time management skills
Ability to coordinate activities of multiple work groups and meet deadlines.
Ability to negotiate in variety of settings with groups, sponsors, granting agencies and others.

Must be able to establish and maintain effective working relationships with supervisor, other employees, volunteers, and the public.
Ability to work hours that will include evenings and weekends attending marketing programs and the like as well as attending events as required.

PHYSICAL AND MENTAL REQUIREMENTS
Lifting and Carrying:
May lift and move items such as chairs, weighing up to 50 lbs., using assistance if needed.
Pushing and Pulling:
Must be able to move boxes of promotional materials to off-site locations, including loading materials on hand-carts, pushing and pulling the carts.
Sitting and standing.
Bending, kneeling, stooping and moving about from location to location. Must be able to transport self to off-site locations.
Must be able to respond to requests in person and on the telephone.
Uses vision to work with computer as well and read memos and other written material.
Uses basic addition, subtraction, multiplication and division for working with budgets, income and expense reports and contracts.
Must remember details of marketing commitments, planned events and projects, and contracts negotiated.
Ability to communicate verbally and in writing with a wide variety of people. Ability to write clear and concise press releases, articles, contracts, memos, scripts and develop other written marketing materials. Ability to speak in front of an audience.
Must make judgments on budget, supervision, cost-effectiveness of marketing endeavors, and proper communication with the public.
Work is performed in an office environment with frequent need to move about the building and/or other locations throughout the municipal center and other City facilities.
Work includes a high level of interruptions and heavy workload.
Evening and weekend hours may be required.
