The position is based in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. The primary role is to serve as a subject matter expert on materials and corrosion, and to provide support to the site.
•Become familiar with site units, operation, corrosion trends and reliability
•Recommend compatible cost effective metallic materials
•Help determine root causes of failures related to corrosion and materials
•Provide guidance for welding and heat treatment procedures
•Identify degradation modes and materials parameters for use in risk assessment
•Estimate a probability of failure for various degradation modes by reviewing historic inspection data, operating and service data, and industry and company guides
•Develop and optimize inspection plans (e.g. identify suspect areas and inspection techniques needed to identify)
•Identify equipment operating envelope requirements to minimize corrosion
•Manage or create corrosion control programs
•Develop mitigation plans and options to minimize corrosion (e.g. increase pipe diameter to slow velocity, resize drum to allow better separation, etc.)
•Review site changes and identify impacts to materials degradation and inspection
•Interpret and provide background on company guides or industry codes and practices related to corrosion
•Develop work lists for unit outages
•Provide training to site personnel regarding materials and corrosion
•Bachelor's degree in Materials Engineering or Mechanical Engineering or related field
•Knowledge of piping, tanks, exchangers and vessels, as well as common materials used in the petrochemical industry.
•Understanding of material properties, heat treatment, welding and corrosion
•Ability to lead and manage others
•Ability to prioritize and manage multiple projects
•Ability to present and explain concepts and issues to a wide variety of people
•Familiarity with industry standards related to materials, corrosion, inspection and equipment such as found in API, ASTM, NACE and ASME
Preferred Related skills:
•Minimum 5 years of experience in the petrochemical industry with a focus on inspection, repair, and risk assessment.
