This position is open to members of the Indiana National Guard and those willing/eligable to join.

This position is located in the USPFO-IN Warehouse, Indianapolis, IN. The purpose of this position is to serve as a Small Shop Chief (SSC) with the responsibility for the overall operations of a small shop. The position oversees and directs works of one or more Materials Handlers, who are assigned to the shop. The incumbent performs the full range of non-supervisory work of the shop.

This job announcement is for employment as an Indiana Army National Guard Technician; a Federal Civil Service position. This is a dual-status technician job whereby you are required to maintain active membership in a National Guard unit and are required to wear the military uniform at the workplace. As members of a unit of the Indiana National Guard, you will be required to train with your unit, normally one weekend a month and 15 days of annual training each year. Indiana Army National Guard units and members are subject to immediate call to federal or state active duty to meet national or state emergencies. KEY REQUIREMENTS

Must be in pay grades E-4 thru E-7 DUTIES:
As a Materials Handler (SSC) with the Indiana National Guard, your duties will include, but will not be limited to:
Determines approaches, methods and courses of action rquired to accomplish the mission of the shop in an effective and efficient manner.
Plans and lays out work to be accomplished in the shop which is then completed by the individual and lower graded worker
Possesses the knowledge and skills found at hte journeyman level as well as those required for planning, accomplishing and maintaining a functional shop maintenance program.

Independently determines appropriate maintenance procedures such as how and when the work should be accomplished. Estimates manpower, equipment and material requirements.

Devises and maintains all program plans and records, is skilled in survellience and troubleshooting techniques, and is able to determine maintenance/repair procedures needed without benefit of technical supervisory guidance.

Plans, organizes and directs shop maintenance programs/procedures under general supervision.

Determines approaches, methods and courses of action rquired to accomplish the mission of the shop in an effective and efficient manner.

May provide recommendations and input to the supervisor concerning personnel actions such as performance appraisals, awards, position description changes, disciplinary actions, leave, etc.

Performs the same type and level of work as performed within the unit.

Performs other duties as assigned.

Incumbent may be required to prepare for and support the mission through the accomplishment of duties pertaining to military training, military readiness, force protection and other mission related assignments including, but not limited to, training of traditional Guard members, CWDE/NBC training, exercise participation (ORE/ORI/UCI/MEI/OCI/IG, etc.), mobility exercise participation, FSTA/ATSO exercise participation, SABC training, LOAC training, weapons qualification training, participation in military formations, and medical mobility processing within the guidelines of NGB/ARNG/ANG/State TAG rules, regulations and laws. QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED:

APPOINTMENT FACTORS : This position is a Permanent Excepted position .

NATIONAL GUARD MEMBERSHIP IS REQUIRED: This position is an excepted position that requires active membership in a compatible Military Occupational Skill (MOS) in the Indiana Army National Guard and selectee will be required to wear the military uniform. Acceptance of an excepted position constitutes concurrence with these requirements as a condition of employment.

MILITARY REQUIREMENTS: Selected candidates will be required to be in a compatible military grade and assignment prior to the effective date of placement.

Military Grades: Enlisted Personnel: E-4 through E-7.

Compatible Military Assignments: Enlisted CMF: 42 AND 92 MOS: 36B, 51C, 88M, 88N, 89A, 89B

IMPORTANT NOTES:
A criminal history check will be completed on all selectees before hire date.

Permanent Change of Station (PCS) funds are not available for this position.

In order to meet the Minimum Qualifications for this Materials Handler (SSC) position at the WG-07 grade level, you must have at least 12 months of:

Experience or training which demonstrates the ability to compare item identification against receiving reports and issue request forms; skill in using hand trucks, dollies, and other equipment to move stock; ability to use hammers, pliers, and other hand tools; and to follow oral and written instructions.

Experience performing inventory and inspections to determine serviceability of stocked items. Experience in interpreting and applying written instructions, reference materials, publications, and manuals. Experience in setting up and rotating storage locations considering factors such as life expectancy, available space, product turnover, etc.
