NATIONAL GUARD MEMBERSHIP IS REQUIRED

DUTY LOCATION: Edinburgh, IN (UTES 1)

JOB SUMMARY: This job is located at a National Guard maintenance facility, warehouse, training site, supply or support type facility. Its purpose is to perform work related to a wide range of warehousing activities to include receiving, storing, selecting and shipping general or specialized bulk and bin materials and equipment.

This job announcement is for employment as an Indiana Army National Guard Technician; a Federal Civil Service position. This is a dual-status technician job whereby you are required to maintain active membership in a National Guard unit and are required to wear the military uniform at the workplace. As members of a unit of the Indiana National Guard, you will be required to train with your unit, normally one weekend a month and 15 days of annual training each year. Indiana Army National Guard units and members are subject to immediate call to federal or state active duty to meet national or state emergencies.

APPOINTMENT FACTORS: This position is an TERM Excepted Service position.

MILITARY RANK REQUIREMENTS: E-3 thru E-8

MILITARY SPECIALITY REQUIREMENTS: Individuals must meet the qualifications for the technician position but will have 1 year from date of hire to be assigned to a compatible MOS in a compatible unit for the technician position advertised.

Compatible Military Assignments: CMF: 89, 91, and 92; MOS: 88H, 88M, 88N, and 88Z

AREA(S) OF CONSIDERATION:
Permanent (Tenure 1 or 2) Technicians employed by the Indiana Army National Guard

Temporary, TERM or Indefinite Federal (Tenure 0 or 3) Technicians employed by the Indiana Army National Guard
Traditional M-Day Soldiers with the Indiana Army National Guard
Guard members from another state; Reservists/IRR; and/or Active Duty Soldiers willing to join the Indiana Army National Guard
Civilians with prior military service willing to join the Indiana Army National Guard

DUTIES:
As a Materials Handler with the Indiana Army National Guard (ARNG), your duties will include, but will not be limited to:

Loads and unloads materials. Inspects and inventories materials for serviceability and quantity. Checks, assembles, and processes documents, and routes materials and equipment to correct locations or storage areas. Locates, accesses, loads, and moves material for shipment and verifies or prepares documents either manually or by using automated equipment such as computer terminals and bar code wands to read, store, track, and prepare materials documentation. Examines items being turned in to determine classification, serviceable condition, and repairability and tags accordingly. May be required to prepare and type a variety of supply documents or reports.
Prepares shipping and inventory documents with required data for manual or automated inventory systems. Loads and unloads shipments from trucks, rail cars, and other material conveyances using forklifts, manual and mechanized pallet jacks, side loaders, and/or stacker cranes. Participates in annual and cyclic inventory. May pack, crate, stencil, weigh and band equipment and supplies, equipment or hazardous material for shipment or storage. May operate warehouse tractors, forklifts, tugs and trucks, and other general purpose vehicles and perform routine operator maintenance. May use pliers, screwdrivers and other simple hand tools to make repairs or adjustments or replace missing components on equipment. May work in hazardous materials storage areas which require the use of specialized handling and storage procedures as required by regulatory and safety requirements.
May maintain property book and hand receipts.
Performs other duties as assigned.
Incumbent may be required to prepare for and support the mission through the accomplishment of duties pertaining to military training, military readiness, force protection and other mission related assignments including, but not limited to, training of traditional Guard members, CWDE/NBC training, exercise participation (ORE/ORl/UCI/MEI/OCl/I G, etc.), mobility exercise, FSTA/ATSO exercise participation, SABC training, LOAC training, weapons qualification training, participation in military formations, and medical mobility processing within the guidelines of NGB/ARNG/ANG/State/TAG rules, regulations and laws. These tasks have no impact on the classification of this position and should NOT be addressed in any technician’s performance standards.

QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED:
In order to meet the Minimum Qualifications for this Materials Handler position at the WG-05 grade level, you must have at least 6 months of:

Experience or training which demonstrates the ability to compare item identification against receiving reports and issue request forms; skill in using hand trucks, dollies, and other equipment to move stock; ability to use hammers, pliers, and other hand tools; and to follow oral and written instructions.
Experience or training demonstrating the ability to store, organize and/or rotate a variety of bin and bulk supplies, materials, equipment, and commodities. Familiar with basic warehouse procedures. Experience in determining quantities of inventory items. Experience in following oral and written instructions. Knowledge, Skills and Abilities that will be evaluated for this position include:
Knowledge of wide variety and range of duties requiring specialized knowledge of warehouse plans, methods, procedures, and techniques of material handling.
Knowledge of preparing reports or documents.
Use of automated equipment such as optical readers and scanners and computer keyboards to develop computerized inventory data, access materials, and fill item requisitions.
Knowledge of using height, weight, and special handling requirements when stacking, moving, and arranging items on pallets.
Use of pallet measuring gauges and automated devices to insure that proper height, weight and other load and storage requirements are met and damage in storage or in transit is prevented.

A criminal history check will be completed on all selectees before hire date.

Permanent Change of Station (PCS) funds are not available for this position.

WORKING CONDITIONS: Works inside or outside in areas that may be hot, damp, cold, drafty, or poorly lighted. Incumbent is regularly exposed to the possibility of cuts, scrapes, bruises, abrasions, falls, and injury from falling stock or mechanized conveyor systems. May be exposed to dust, dirt, grease, and solvents and to high noise levels in working areas. When working in hazardous materials areas, the incumbent may be subject to exposure from radiation, toxins, explosive hazards, or chemical fumes. Work may require wearing protective clothing such as hard hats, steel toed shoes, rubber gloves, masks, and rubber aprons.

PHYSICAL EFFORT: Incumbent is often required to stand on hard surfaces for extended periods of time, to bend, stoop, and work in tiring and sometimes uncomfortable positions. May lift and carry items that weigh up to 40 pounds. The heavier items are moved with weight handling equipment or with assistance from other workers.
