The MM OR Specialist is the Materials Management functionary assigned to the OR responsible for ordering and maintaining an adequate inventory, establishing and maintaining inventory controls, assisting in establishing an electronic audit of all OR Materials Management activities, maintaining the item file in both an electronic and manual format, and assuming the duties of the MM OR Supervisor in his/her absence. Major Duties: Meets organizational expectations as defined by the Employee Standards of Performance, hospital and department policies and procedures, and the hospital’s strategic goals. Verbalizes a clear understanding of continuous quality improvement and customer satisfaction measures and actively participates in improvement initiatives. Assist the MM OR Supervisor.

Performs receiving duties including verification of orders, packing slip verification, quantity match, and computer input to accomplish receiving function. Performs distribution duties including proper location of supplies within the Operating Room Department . Responsible for stocking supplies. Perform duties in a timely manner with a sense of urgency.

Assist purchasing with receiving and retrieving supplies ordered. Assist accounting with rectifying invoices purchase orders. Process O.R. vendor purchase orders and receive.

Verification of orders received from Materials Management Department. Verification of packing slips of delivered items from Materials Management Department. Order Entry of needed Operating Room supplies through Materials Management Data Entry System. Act as backup support in absence of MM OR Supervisor.

Works harmoniously with Operating Room staff locating, re-organizing, and ordering supplies. Initiates supply cost comparisons and reductions as cost saving initiatives present themselves. Meets with vendors. Ability to be reassigned within MM as needed or in case of emergency.

Maintain electronic item file with attention to categorization of supplies, developing and maintaining order guides. Assist OR Manager and Materials Manager with any report requests. Performs other duties as assigned or directed to ensure smooth operation of the organization. Education/Knowledge/Skills/Abilities: Preferred: A background in health related purchasing activities.

Business/Management degree/some college. Previous hospital environment experience, knowledge of medical supplies, warehouse and stockroom. Required: Basic computer skills, 10-key calculator, good oral and written skills and strong self initiative. good customer service attitude.

High school graduate or equivalent. Computer experience and some inventory control experience.
