I.Position Purpose/Scope: What are the key objectives of the position

The Materials Manager is responsible for three basic functions: Material Control, Warehouse Management, and Purchasing. This position requires expertise in allocation, budgeting and administration, specialized knowledge of manufacturing controls systems, and a strong acumen in forecasting product line structures and business cycles. Project management and problem solving will be fundamental to this role and the ideal candidate will be an effective communicator and possess the ability to effectively work with a team to achieve success. Familiarity with APICS certification is preferred.

II.Position Responsibilities/Accountabilities: List the major duties/accountabilities to achieve thepositions key objectives.

Develop and control production schedules and inventory levels based on sales forecast and other commitments.
Direct materials staff to insure objectives schedules and budgeting are achieved.
Analyze past business cycles and trends, and developing specific unit forecasts.
Coordinate marketing projections to anticipate business conditions.
Issue and schedule all orders to purchasing and manufacturing functions in the proper sequence and order size based on requirements, scheduling and inventory goals.
Responsible for on-time delivery performance and identifying and solving problems impeding on-time delivery for all orders.
Manage inventory levels including purchases and raw parts in accordance with plant, group and corporate goals.
Responsible for all material movements and transactions. Ensures necessary training, follow-up and error corrections are completed. Ensures inventory control meets inventory accuracy targets.
Receives, coordinates, inputs and establishes the manufacturing bills of materials per engineering orders as well as plans add/delete dates on engineering changes.
Responsible for the plant purchasing staff involvement in supplier selection, quality, delivery, price, MRO, and miscellaneous purchases.
Update to kanban as required.

III. Position Competencies:
A) Education:
Bachelor’s Degree in Business, Supply Chain, Finance or Engineering from an accredited institution.

B) Experience:
5 years’ experience within Supply Chain/ Materials Management

C) Training:
As determined by Proterra Inc

D) Licenses and/or Certifications:
APICS-preferred

E) Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:
Must demonstrate strong experience in supervision and/or managing people.
Experience in a manufacturing environment and inter-relationship with other areas is required and includes complete knowledge of the purchasing function, including negotiations and contracting.
Ideal candidate will be an effective communicator and possess the ability to effectively work with a team to achieve success.

May be requested to travel locally < 5%

V. Physical Demands: Operates computers or other office equipment; and 3) sit or stand for prolonged periods of time. Physical demands should be described in terms of what has to be done and not in terms of physical or mental attributes.) Identify the key physical demands required to perform the essential function(s) of the job and indicate whether the responsibility is performed occasionally ("O"), frequently ("F"), or constantly ("C").

Must be able to lift moderate to heavy loads (O)
Must be able to work in a manufacturing environment including steel toe shoe and safety glasses requirements. (C)
Must be able to sit or stand for prolonged periods of time (C)

VI. Environmental Demands: (Examples are 1) Works with irritant chemicals, gases, etc.; 2) Works shifts or variable work hours; 3) Wears protective clothing or respiratory protective equipment; 4) Works in extreme heat or cold conditions; 5) Exposure to loud noises; 6) Performs work in a normal office setting). Identify the key environmental demands required to perform the essential function(s) of the job and indicate whether the responsibility is performed occasionally ("O"), frequently ("F"), or constantly ("C").
