This position provides students with direct instruction in math and Science, utilizing the Common Core State Standards. Prepares lesson plans, instructional materials and maintains student progress reports. This position serves as a member of the interdisciplinary team in order to plan for student services and treatment.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities / Competencies:

Ability to provide engaging classroom instruction. Ability to manage a classroom of diverse learners. Knowledge and comprehension of current trends and issures in juvenile justice and education of youth in confinement. Knowledge of effective educational practices for students at risk for failure and students with learning challenges. Ability to create a safe environment for students utilizing behavioral management techniques. Ability to create meaningful lessons that coincide with Common Core State Standards and NC Essential Skills in order to improve student achievement.

Minimum Education and Experience Requirements:

Special License Certification requirements: Current "A" or "M" NC Teacher license in middle grades Science education or Science 9-12 and/or middle grades Math or Math 9-12, experience using technology and internet resources in instruction, experience working as part of an instructional team. Preference will be given to candidates with licensure and experience in both core subject areas.
