This position is located in the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS), Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), Office of Surveillance, Epidemiology & Laboratory Services (OSELS), National Center for Health Statistics (NCHS), Office of Research and Methodology (ORM), Statistical Research and Survey Design Staff (SRSDS) in Hyattsville, MD.

The incumbent will serve as a Mathematical Statistician and will be responsible for providing consultation in the application of statistical theories, techniques, and methods to various scientific and public health issues and programs. Incumbent works on a wide range of statistical problems including sampling, modeling, estimation, measurement, missing data, and survey design. Conducts evaluations of data collection, research, and research tools. Performs evaluations of methodology used in specified health program studies to ensure the results are valid and reliable and makes recommendations to program managers that will increase efficiency. Designs and develops statistical models, methods, and/or techniques used in research directly applicable to program operations. Conducts research that expands the body of statistical science, evaluates research and research tools, and participates in topic driven research. The incumbent's research will be presented at scientific meetings and used to create peer-reviewed journal articles.

Basic Qualification Requirements for a Mathematical Statistician, GS-1529 .
Have at least a bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university that includes 24 semester hours of mathematics and statistics, of which at least 12 semester hours were in mathematics and 6 semester hours were in statistics.
Have a combination of education and experience that includes at least 24 semester hours of mathematics and statistics, including at least 12 semester hours in mathematics and 6 semester hours in statistics, as shown above, plus appropriate experience or additional education. Courses acceptable toward meeting the mathematics course requirement above much have included at least four of the following: differential calculus, integral calculus, and advanced calculus, theory of equations, vector analysis, advanced algebra, linear algebra, mathematical logic, differential equations, or any other advanced course in mathematics for which one of these was a prerequisite.
Additional Qualification Requirements for a Mathematical Statistician, GS-1529-12 .
Applicants must have one year of specialized experience at the GS-11 level of difficulty and responsibility in the Federal service as defined in the next paragraph.
Specialized experience is experience which is directly related to the position which has equipped the applicant with the particular knowledge, skills and abilities (KSAs) to successfully perform the duties of the position to include experience with mathematical statistics, statistical modeling, statistical computing, research, and dissemination of findings.
