Milton Hershey School (MHS) is seeking a dynamic High School Math Teacher to engage and educate MHS students in math concepts and skills as it aligns with Pennsylvania state standards, including Keystone Assessment Anchors for Algebra 2, and Geometry, primarily in grades 10 and 11.
This position would start in the 2013 - 2014 school year. Milton Hershey School teachers are in a unique role to teach, as well as mentor, motivate, and inspire students to fully leverage the opportunities available to them and fully reach their growth potential. The High School currently serves approximately 800 students. Class sizes typically are 15 to 20 students per class. MHS teachers plan, prepare and deliver lessons that are engaging, authentic, rigorous and in adherence with Pennsylvania state standards. MHS teachers create and analyze formative and summative assessments to differentiate instruction, design programming, and accommodate individual student & whole-group needs. Incorporation of career exploration and career development opportunities is a component of MHS high school academic programming.
MHS High School Teachers work collaboratively in teams (including inter-disciplinary) with academic colleagues and other MHS staff to ensure academic success, as well as a whole child approach to the students educational experience. This collaboration includes partnering with fellow teachers (including learning support), residential staff, psychologists and others to ensure students' social, emotional and academic needs are met. MHS teachers are encouraged to engage with students in activities supplementing the classroom experience.
Bachelor’s degree in Education required.
Current Secondary Math Certification required.
Demonstrated success in math high school level instruction, particularly in creating meaningful learning experiences.
Demonstrated working knowledge of PA Common Core Standards and Keystone Assessment Anchors/Eligible Content for Algebra 1, Geometry, & Algebra 2.
Co-teaching and collaboration skills (initiate, inquire, collaborate, and create) with course team members.
Demonstrated knowledge of current trends in education required, including utilization of technology.
Excellent organizational & communication skills including the use of evaluative feedback to improve student learning.
Demonstrated ability to develop and analyze formative and summative assessments to guide instruction.
Demonstrated commitment to high student achievement & support for all students. Experience teaching diverse students from poverty a plus.
Ability to exercise various teaching strategies to increase students’ critical thinking skills.
Ability to work in a collaborative environment to develop interdisciplinary units.
Required to schedule and complete an additional duty to the respective teaching schedule.
