Broad function, scope, and continuing responsibility of the position:
Operates, maintains, repairs, adjusts and changes over, all the equipment in the wrapping and packing area. Also as part of this position the Mechanic / Operator will be responsible to perform quality checks relative to the product, monitor line equipment performance, and support the team effort to achieve the production, maintenance, quality and sanitation goals for the wrapping and packing area of the production line on a given shift.
Ensure that the daily production and quality team goals for the production shift in the wrapping and packing area are being achieved.
Review the production schedule and participate in line changeovers, scheduled downtime activities, and related team activities.
Ensure that all quality parameters have been set for the shift. Compile and complete all product checks to ensure quality guidelines are within specifications.
Exhibit problem solving ability to draw conclusions from the equipment to troubleshoot difficulties and make the necessary adjustments and /or repairs to keep the entire system operational.
Review and implement pertinent line performance data such as production rates, quality holds and fill variations, scrap rates, line downtime, and participate in a team action plan to improve in areas that are below standard.
Complete the set up of all equipment for the proper product size, pack and according to equipment manufacturer specifications. This is to include, but not limited to: primary wrapper, overwrapper, packer robots, case erector/sealer, checkweigher, scale, bagger, metal detectors, and related conveyor systems.
Maintain all equipment in good working order, complete all necessary repairs, perform preventive maintenance on the equipment to achieve continuous operation at required production levels and enter all labor hours in MAXIMO.
Continually monitor the production equipment during operation and make the necessary adjustments to the machines based on variations or changes to the product provided to the wrapping area.
Provide all electrical support and repair on the production equipment for all components connected to a 110-volt power supply or lower.
Clear all machine or equipment jams, returns and refeeds of product to the wrapping system and restart wrapping and packaging systems after the jams or related stoppages have been cleared.
During line changeovers and other scheduled line downtime, clean the equipment of all build up product. Sanitize equipment and components after installation of new parts, repairs to existing parts, and general equipment adjustments.
Monitor and service all machines and equipment relative to their specific lubrication and oil change requirements.
Replace all equipment or system wear parts such as knives, anvils, conveyor belts, bearings, etc., and set up the equipment after these part replacements for proper operation.
Maintain a positive teamwork environment by exhibiting professional conduct and communication with management and co-workers.
Perform all duties within GMP standards and maintain a clear and safe work area.
Palletize cases or stack boxes whenever necessary.
Perform additional responsibilities as assigned by the team facilitator.
REQUIREMENTS AND MINIMUM EDUCATION LEVEL:
At least 18 years of age.
High School Diploma or G.E.D. or equivalent required
Technical Manufacturing Trade certificate a plus
Minimum of 3 years experience with vertical Form, Fill and Seal machinery as well as Bosch SIGPACK High Speed packaging systems is a plus
Basic computer skills
Excellent working knowledge of food manufacturing
High Speed packaging equipment operations and mechanics with some basic electrical skills
Strong mechanical skills
Strong diagnostic skills
Good communication skills
Good, safe work habits
Team oriented and able to work with limited supervision
*A written Mechanical Aptitude Test will be required.
