Job Summary/Essential Functions:
Performs all types of repair work, preventive maintenance & overhauls on industrial 2 and 4 cycle engines (e.g. Cooper, Caterpillar, White Superior, Waukesha & Clark, MEP brand engines), pumps, vehicles, hydraulic equipment, gas turbines, gas compressors, mechanical seals, horizontal coolers & parts associated with these items.
Examines, analyzes & troubleshoots equipment for defects in operation.
Troubleshoots and repairs engine/compressor panel boards & control equipment. Strives for optimum performance & reliability of equipment. Dismantles or partially dismantles equipment. Performs clean up associated with these tasks. Uses hand tools, power tools, & electronic diagnostic equipment.
Reads & understands equipment and vehicle repair manuals.
May be required to schedule contractors, coordinate system shutdowns, perform lockout/tagout, starting/stopping of equipment, & perform equipment checks & PSM work.
Works indoors, outdoors, in and around mechanical, industrial and electrical equipment. Required to climb about equipment and work in confined areas.
Works in temperature extremes due to weather conditions and operating equipment.
Wears safety equipment as required.
Uses physical force to lift, push, pull & hold equipment & tools. Climbs & works at various heights & may work in a standing, sitting, lying down, crouched or kneeling position.
Routinely reacts to visual, aural and other signals, including alarms and instructions, and is required to visually inspect work.
May work in confined spaces (i.e. tanks, between compressors, vessels).
Must be able to regularly bend, stoop, move from ground level to higher levels, raise/lift from ground level a load up to 50 lbs., manually transport a load up to 80 lbs., apply up to 200 foot pounds of torque. Must have the ability to get in and out of vehicles regularly & ride over rough roads.
Must be willing to work overtime and handle call-outs. Will be subject to DOT drug and alcohol testing requirements.
Job may be staffed at any of the following levels depending on qualifications and experience: Mechanic X, Mechanic I, Mechanic II or Utility III.
Minimum of two years experience performing maintenance work on Cooper, Caterpillar, Waukesha & Clark engines.
Minimum of two years experience as an industrial mechanic maintaining engine/compressor panel board and control equipment.
Minimum of two years experience working in a gas gathering system or processing plant.
No recordable injury in three years.
High School degree or GED.
Valid driver’s license with no recordable PVA.
Reliable means of contact for call-out purposes.
Knowledge of safety rules & practices.
Ability to follow written or spoken work instructions in English.
Ability to perform basic mathematical calculations.
Mechanical aptitude & basic computer skills including spreadsheet & word processing applications.
Must be able to assume responsibility & perform duties & handle multiple tasks under potentially stressful and/or hazardous conditions.
Ability to make decisions & corrections when problems are detected.
Ability to work well with others; open to learning, have a history of being able to work as part of a team, take pride in a job well done, enjoy working hard.
Very positive work performance; ability to perform work independently; history of being dependable & reliable; good organizational and customer relations skills.
Currently qualified as Mechanic Level I or II or be able to pass qualifying tests.
