ITT Exelis is looking to hire a Mechanical Design Engineer in Clifton, New Jersey
The selected candidate will perform the following duties: Responsible for developing mechanical design solutions for space borne optical instruments. Support the development of ground based test equipment both optical and electrical for space borne optical instruments. Lead small design or test effort. Collaborate with other functional areas to insure that the designs are producible and testable. Responsible for design solutions that meet the difficult requirements of space borne systems including launch and on-orbit operations for missions lasting more than 10 years. Responsible for mechanical design support to the assembly floor for mechanical issues including MRB. Responsible for Mechanical support to test campaigns for instruments including vibration, EMI, thermal vacuum, and performance. Collaborates with Operations and Mechanical analysis to provide design solutions that meet requirements and provide the customer the “best value”. Develops and delivers plans for their own work products. Develops and briefs design review packages. Accountable for the quality of their design products in terms of cost and compliance with requirements. Accountable for timely and effective support to the assembly floor. Accountable for timely and accurate support to test teams which could involve extended hours and weekends. Monitors their own performance against cost, schedule and performance requirements. Complies with all safety standards and regulations. Complies with all departmental design practices and processes. Follows applicable quality systems, procedures and processes. • Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering required
• A minimum of 6 years of experience in Design and/or Product Engineering in the aerospace field required
• The ability to work on ITAR programs required
• The ability to obtain a Security clearance required
• Solid understanding of “Design for Manufacturing”
• Experience with Pro-Engineer CAD software
• Familiar with aerospace materials and finishes
