The Mechanical Engineer for Material Handling develops functional and technical specifications, performs mechanical design, and accomplishes material handling and other design projects in NA manufacturing plants. This is sometimes accomplished through the management of material handling contractors.

Responsibilities:
  • Provides support for technical problem solving/analysis of existing equipment.
  • Liaises between factory quality groups, PIT teams, equipment suppliers, and other engineering groups to assure mutual customer-supplier system requirement understanding.
  • Assists in defining the functional specifications for new machines, systems, or improvement modifications.
  • Develops system layouts and technical specifications to achieve function requirements to Michelin NA and Group equipment standards.
  • Provides project management support for new machines, systems, or improvement modifications.
  • Provides Start-up assistance and qualification/acceptance support for new machines/systems.
  • Assures complete and current technical documentation.
  • Develops training material for new and existing technology and provides training to factory personnel.
  • Provides formal documentation to support the above activities and maintains proper document management consistent with Michelin's Quality System.
Requirements:
  • BS in Engineering; Mechanical is preferred
  • Minimum of 3 years industrial experience, preferably in material handling projects in a Michelin plant environment. The applicant is preferred to have material handling expertise in theory, operation, and maintenance of conveyance and storage equipment to achieve a desired plant process capability.
  • Mechanical design skills, and the ability to deal with electrical material handling equipment.
  • Excellent interpersonal and leadership skills. Able to develop positive relationships with customers.
  • Well organized and able to manage multiple tasks simultaneously. Must provide examples of project management (multiple small projects or large projects).
  • Strong communication skills with the ability to influence and resolve issues. Both written and verbal communication skills are essential. Ability to communicate with French counterparts on technical issues is preferred
  • Maintains a high degree of confidentiality in dealings with outside contractors and equipment suppliers.
  • Proficient in AutoCAD, or some 3D Computer Drawing software.
  • Willing to travel (domestic and some international) in support of the above duties and responsibilities.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office applications (Excel, Word, Project, and PowerPoint).
