The Mechanical Engineer I designs components, modules and sub-systems based on design input requirements, using basic knowledge of engineering principles and disciplines. They propose and evaluate design concepts for feasibility. They create component and assembly models using CAD tools, as well as detailed drawings and specifications. The Mechanical Engineer follows defined processes and procedures to produce technical designs conforming to requirements. The Mechanical Engineer also, with guidance from more senior techchnical staff, defines and executes test protocols for components and systems, and evaluates performance against established criteria. They may participate on problem-solving teams, including working to determine root causes and contributors to technical issues, and performing failure analyses. They participate in technical risk assessments, and they may also document findings in written reports and/or contribute to certain written design deliverables.
Minimum of B.S. degree in mechanical engineering. Fluent in English language, including competency in reading and writing. Candidate should be able to apply basic scientific reasoning to form and test hypotheses, and to solve technical problems.
Experience using CAD for model creation and detailing, with proficiency in ProEngineer/Wildfire desirable. Candidate should also be willing to work in a lab environment, which may include operation of instrumentation, and assembly or modification of modules and components.
