The Defense Logistics Agency (DLA) is a U.S. Department of Defense (DoD) agency. DLA provides worldwide logistics support for the missions of the Military Departments and the Unified Combatant Commands under conditions of peace and war. It also provides logistics support to other DoD Components and certain Federal agencies, foreign governments, international organizations, and others as authorized.

DUTIES:
This is a developmental position which may be filled at either grade level, please indicate the grade(s) for which you want to be considered. If selected at GS07 or GS09 or GS11 level, the incumbent may be non-competitively promoted to target grade (GS-12) upon meeting all requirements and upon recommendation of the supervisor, however promotion is not guaranteed and no promise of promotion is implied
DUTIES: As a Mechanical Engineer, you will be responsible for the following duties:
Serving on a wide range of Defense Logistics Agency (DLA) reverse/reengineering and Value
Engineering (VE) efforts associated with all DoD major weapon systems supported by the
Agency and Center
Coordinating engineering efforts with other DLA activities and military services to increase ·
readiness of US Forces by reducing production lead time, reducing costs through competition
and reverse/reengineering products
Performing professional level evaluation of the essential technical characteristics of various
weapon systems/components
Providing engineering expertise to Engineering Support Activities, military customers and
contractors on a wide range of DLA/DoD initiatives

QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED:
To qualify for a Mechanical Engineer position, your resume must include:
A. Basic Requirements for ALL Grades (GS07/09/11/12): Degree: professional engineering. To be acceptable, the curriculum must: (1) be in a school of engineering with at least one curriculum accredited by the Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology (ABET) as a professional engineering curriculum; or (2) include differential and integral calculus and courses (more advanced than first-year physics and chemistry) in five of the following seven areas of engineering science or physics: (a) statics, dynamics; (b) strength of materials (stress-strain relationships); (c) fluid mechanics, hydraulics; (d) thermodynamics; (e) electrical fields and circuits; (f) nature and properties of materials (relating particle and aggregate structure to properties); and (g) any other comparable area of fundamental engineering science or physics, such as optics, heat transfer, soil mechanics, or electronics
OR
B. Combination of education and experience -- college-level education, training, and/or technical experience that furnished (1) a thorough knowledge of the physical and mathematical sciences underlying professional engineering, and (2) a good understanding, both theoretical and practical, of the engineering sciences and techniques and their applications to one of the branches of engineering. The adequacy of such background must be demonstrated by one of the following:
(1) Professional registration -- Current registration as a professional engineer by any State, the District of Columbia, Guam, or Puerto Rico. Absent other means of qualifying under this standard, those applicants who achieved such registration by means other than written test (e.g., State grandfather or eminence provisions) are eligible only for positions that are within or closely related to the specialty field of their registration. For example, an applicant who attains registration through a State Board's eminence provision as a manufacturing engineer typically would be rated eligible only for manufacturing engineering positions.
(2) Written Test -- Evidence of having successfully passed the Engineer-in-Training (EIT) examination, or the written test required for professional registration, which is administered by the Boards of Engineering Examiners in the various States, the District of Columbia, Guam, and Puerto Rico.
(3) Specified academic courses -- Successful completion of at least 60 semester hours of courses in the physical, mathematical, and engineering sciences and in engineering that included the courses specified in the basic requirements.
(4) Related curriculum -- Successful completion of a curriculum leading to a bachelor's degree in engineering technology or in an appropriate professional field, e.g., physics, chemistry, architecture, computer science, mathematics, hydrology, or geology, may be accepted in lieu of a degree in engineering, provided the applicant has had at least 1 year of professional engineering experience acquired under professional engineering supervision and guidance. Ordinarily there should be either an established plan of intensive training to develop professional engineering competence, or several years of prior professional engineering-type experience, e.g., in interdisciplinary positions. (The above examples of related curricula are not all-inclusive.)
For consideration at the GS07 level, in addition to meeting the BASIC REQUIREMENTS listed above, applicants must demonstrate in their resume, one (1) year of specialized experience equivalent to the next lower grade level (GS05) in the Federal Service or equivalent level of experience gained in the private sector. Examples of creditable specialized experience include:
Collecting cost and technical information
Assisting higher graded engineers in evaluating engineering drawings, blueprints and specifications
Assisting in a portion of a larger mechanical engineering project
EDUCATION SUBSTITUTION: Applicants may qualify for this position, in addition to meeting the BASIC REQUIREMENTS listed above, if he/she possess one year of graduate-level education or superior academic achievement. Such education. must have provided the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to perform the work of the position being filled.
For consideration at the GS-09, applicants must demonstrate in their resume, in addition to meeting the basic requirements, one (1) year of specialized experience that equipped you with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities (KSAs) to perform successfully the duties of the position, and that is in or related to the work of this position. To be creditable, specialized experience must be equivalent to the GS-07 level or equivalent under other pay systems in the Federal service, military or private sector. Examples
of creditable specialized experience include:
Performing and executing specific portions of engineering projects
Conducting studies and analyses of specific issues or specialty areas within the mechanical engineering

EDUCATION SUBSTITUTION: Applicants may qualify for this position, in addition to meeting the BASIC REQUIREMENTS listed above, if he/she possess three years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to a Ph.D. degree or Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree. Such education must have provided the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to perform the work of the position being filled.
