This is an anticipated vacancy available 2/1/2013 Principle Mechanical Engineer for the NC Department of Public Safety-Central Engineering. Responsible for all aspects fo mechanical engineering within the department. Supervision of in-house mechanical designe including Life-Safety, HVAC systems, plumbing. gas and fire sprinkler systems for capital expansion project and major renovation projects. Planning, scoping, budgeting and evalulation of mechanical systems for new and existing facilties.
Management prefers at least seven years of electrical design experience. Required to be a Registed Engineer(with requirement to acquire North Carolina registration within one year if not registered in North Carolina)
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities / Competencies:
Evaluate, prioritize, plan and supervise Mechanincal Engineering Section. Comprehensive knowledge in the following areas are required; HVAC systems, plumbing, gas and sprinkler system design; NC Building, plumbing, gas mechanical and energy codes; familiarity with the state construction, DOI and DPS posicies and procedures concerning design, procurement and construction of building mechanical/plumbing systems. This position will require the abiility to design and supervise the preparation of plans and specifications. Typical maintenance project will include replacement of 150-600 ton chiller with assocated cooling towers. Boiler replacement and repair will range from 30,000 lb/hr and less. Designs will include everything from minor rework of existing buildings to improving energy efficency to complete mechanical construction documents for new facilities. This position requires the expertise to evaluate the operation and use of existing facilities and recommend approches that will save energy or operating cost.
Minimum Education and Experience Requirements:
Bachelor's degree in the engineering discipline related to the area of assignment; or equivalent combination of training and experience some positions may require licensure by the North Carolina board of examiners for engineers and surveyors. All degrees must be received from appropriately accredited institutions. . .
