The mechanical engineer will support the design and development of fuel cell system components, packaging and structural modules for current and future products. The mechanical engineer has responsibility for designing all elements of system enclosure and structural elements to meet functional, certification, and cost requirements. Design tools used will be Computer Aided Design (CAD), preferably PRO Engineer, Finite Element Analysis (FEA) and Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD).
Work with a team of mechanical, electrical and systems engineers to package system components, design system enclosure and design structural elements.
Must be able to select components based on system requirements and validate components for performance.
Perform computer simulations and analytical studies as needed to demonstrate the design meets functional and certification requirements.
Ability to conduct hands on component and sub system testing.
Prior experience in transitioning a design from concept to production and cost reducing part designs.
Ability to perform tolerance analysis and working knowledge or ASME Y14.5 Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing principles.
Working knowledge of Pro Engineer Wildfire 3 / Creo software.
Experience with a structured Engineering Change Process.
Flexibility and the ability to meet strict requirements to tight schedule.
Work well in both a self-directed and team environment.
Perform other duties as assigned.
Working knowledge of Pro Mechanica and/ or ANSYS preferred.
Working knowledge of design of sheet metal, molded plastic and cast parts.
Knowledge of Vibration, Thermal and Fatigue design.
Working knowledge PED, ASME, UL /CSA and European codes and standards that would apply to the design of lift truck products preferred.
Ability to communicate effectively with the local and international part suppliers.
Ability to clearly communicate goals, findings, and issues.
BS in Mechanical Engineering or a related engineering discipline is required;
2-5 years of work experience preferred.
