Alcon is seeking Mechanical Engineer candidates with design, analysis, and hands-on development experience for short and long term contracts. When they become available, these opportunities will be located in our new R&D facility in Lake Forest, CA (Orange County). Candidates must be willing and able to relocate at their own expense.

Overall Summary: The Mechanical Engineer will be responsible for research, planning, design, development, and test of surgical consumable devices, mechanical fixtures, micromechanical assemblies, and/or other mechanical designs for use in ophthalmic surgery.

Minimum Qualifications:
• Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering (Biomedical Engineering may qualify, if hands-on related experience with the following is obtained outside of academic coursework)
• 5 – 10 years mechanical engineering and/or mechanical design related experience
• Hands-on experience with fluid mechanics, stress analysis, injection molding, extrusion, engineering plastics, elastomeric materials, micromechanical assembly, fixture design for micromechanical devices, and/or fluid dynamics
• Structured product testing/validation (medical preferred)
• Understanding of materials fundamentals and processes
• Pro-E or similar 3D CAD application experience
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills
• Ability to work in highly structured engineering documentation environment

Preferred Qualifications:
• Advanced degree in Mechanical Engineering degree
• Experience with biocompatibility and sterility standards
• Prior experience leading technical teams and releasing new medical products to market
