Position Summary

Owner for mechanical predictive and preventative maintenance programs for rotating and associated fixed equipment. Leads identification of improvement solutions to opportunities with rotating machinery and associated fixed equipment that prevents failures that result in unscheduled outages. Provides leadership, expert advice, and guidance to maintenance technicians and assist area reliability engineers with rotating machinery and associated equipment opportunities. When required, provide troubleshooting and failure analysis on rotating machinery and associated equipment or systems (compressors, pumps, fans, gear boxes, agitators, pumps, motors, piping, valves, and miscellaneous mechanical components). This role works with area Gatekeeper, AAL and Maintenance Supervisors to ensure timely execution of Predictive task, scheduled PMs and PM/RCM strategy tasks. In addition, this role provides direction to Maintenance Planners and Maintenance Material Coordinators in repairs and scope development activities planned and ready to execute when equipment is made available.

Essential Job Functions

¨ Reviews and updates equipment reliability strategies, failure histories and failure modes. Drives improvements with Area Reliability Engineers, Maintenance Mechanics and Operators to improve equipment Reliability (eliminates failures).

¨ Trained in RCA and evaluates effectiveness reliability strategy tasks and troubleshooting activities within maintenance and operations. Makes adjustments or recommends improvements as well as mentors and trains Maintenance Mechanics and Operators in the proper method to perform tasks or identify necessary skills needed development.

¨ Proficient in the use of site laser alignment, ultrasonic, infrared, optical levels and vibration equipment. Provides oversight and mentors Maintenance Mechanics in the correct use and application of these tools.

¨ Trained and proficient in PM/RCM, evaluates reliability strategies and develops improvements, works with AALs, Site and/or Area Reliability Engineers to implement changes for eliminating failures. Lead RCAs, participates on RCM teams as needed to develop improvements in reliability strategies.

¨ Monitors, evaluates and leverages the following to improve equipment availability; all predictive and preventative maintenance programs, such as rotating machinery oil analysis, vibration analysis results, PMs, seal failure analysis from vendor and Maintenance Mechanics, MTBF for rotating machinery, RCA reports, inspection reports from Maintenance Mechanics during overhauls and repairs, off-site repairs/rebuilds by 3


party, etc.

¨ Tracks, manages and documents critical rotating machinery and associated equipment spare parts refurbishment, on-site/off-site rotating machinery overhauls. Recommends and provides guidance to Operations and Stores for spare parts and spare parts storage requirements at both on-site and off-site facilities.

¨ Conducts quarterly visual walkthroughs in their assigned area as well as with the other PPM Coordinators to facilitate knowledge sharing and consistent approach to reliability strategies.

¨ Track deficiencies in rotating and associated fixed equipment. Writes SAP notifications, tracks status and reports monthly. Follows-up to ensure maintenance has plans in place for next opportunity with necessary spare parts onsite and ready. Supports Area Reliability Engineers with Risk Mitigation Plans (RMP) on critical rotating machinery identified through PMs or Predictive Analysis warranting additional surveillance.

¨ Report findings and stays current with results from visual personal walk through, reviews vibration analysis results, monitors GE Bently Nevada panels, transformer oil analysis, critical motor overhauls, critical spare parts rebuild status, and monthly PM compliance and effectiveness. Supports development of Key Process Reliability Parameters.

¨ Interfaces with OEM/Vendors regarding upgrades, best practices, design specs, spare parts, drawings and budget estimates, etc.

¨ Assist Site and Area Reliability Engineers with scopes of rebuilds and repairs to rotating machinery during TA. Contributes to timely and cost effective turnarounds as needed.

¨ Works with Area Mechanical Engineers on upgrades or modifications to rotating and associated fixed equipment. Can initiate and implement an MOC.

¨ Implement solutions to close identified performance and reliability gaps in rotating machinery and associated fixed equipment.

¨ Proficient in creating IP-21 trends to troubleshoot or gather data for RCA on rotating machinery and associated fixed equipment.

¨ Participate in rotating machinery and associated fixed equipment related upgrade programs. Utilize outside resources as appropriate for specialized equipment expertise.

¨ Ensures all rotating or associated fixed equipment repairs or replacements are documented appropriately. Monitors PM and Preventative Maintenance “as found and as left” document for compliance with OSHA 1910.119 PSI requirements.

¨ Key resource in support of achieving availability performance and work with area AALs to make improvements in reliability strategies.

¨ Follows repairs, obtains final reports and ensures any documents or drawing revisions are placed in equipment files.

¨ Supports Maintenance Materials Coordinators to source the right parts or vendors.

¨ Perform housekeeping in work area to maintain site safety standards.

¨ Communicates following MBM® Principles with other employees using hand-held radios, telephone, computer email, public address systems as necessary for operations of assigned areas.

Other Responsibilities

¨ Report any incidents that may have a negative impact on safety, health or the environment. Report incidents in a timely fashion to meet state and federal requirements.

¨ Regular attendance is an essential job function.

¨ Assist Small Project Work Process and Large Project Work Process groups as required.

¨ Initiate and implement MOCs.

¨ Comply with plant safety and environmental requirements, accepting the responsibility for personal safety, such as wearing all necessary personal protective equipment for the job

¨ Work extended hours and be available for call-out as needed (pager/cell phone) as needed

¨ Maintain current knowledge of chemical process operations including knowledge of pumps, distillation, instrumentation, chemical reactions, etc.

¨ Make suggestions to improve safety and reduce cost of the operations

¨ Cross-train on responsibilities as needed with temporary back-up resources

¨ Attends site training and monthly safety meetings. Participates on other teams (PHAs, Large Projects, Program Development, etc.)

¨ Keeps current on VTA, Lynx and RCA action items or any other compliance requirements.

Education and/or Experience Required

¨ Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering from an accredited college or university.

¨ Willing to coach maintenance mechanical technicians and provide feedback to improve individual and/or team performance.

¨ Possess good communication skills (oral & written) and the ability to coach and help others.

¨ Ability to work on various programs (PowerPoint, Excel, Word, SAP and other computer programs after training is provided)

¨ Capable of working independently with functional guidance rather than direct assignments.

¨ Demonstrated initiative and ownership of work

¨ Demonstrated acceptance of change and taking on additional responsibilities.

¨ Demonstrated a positive safety attitude and excellent safety performance.

¨ Able to function with various levels of the organization (engineers, supervision, operators, mechanics, contractors, off-site vendors)

¨ Ability to travel up to 10%

Preferred Skills:
¨ At least 2 years of plant experience in mechanical engineering field, in a petrochemical or related operation.

¨ Rotating machinery and fixed equipment troubleshooting and repairing experience preferred.

¨ Must be authorized to work in the United States of America without company sponsorship now and in the future.
