DESCRIPTION

Heritage Environmental Services owns and operates a hazardous and industrial waste treatment facility in Indianapolis, Indiana. The facility includes a physical/chemical inorganic wastewater treatment process, an organic waste blending process for subsequent use as a supplemental fuel for cement kilns, a heavy metal laden waste solids treatment process and several other smaller processes. The plant has roughly 75 employees and currently operates 24 hours per day 7 days per week. The plant engineer would be responsible for capital projects, larger maintenance projects that require contractors, contractor requirements, process studies, improvements, technical advice on treatment of unusual waste streams (with adequate experience), technical input on safety issues, developing, tracking and maintaining data used to improve facility operations and financial performance, in addition to other duties as assigned. The Plant Engineer will report to the Plant Management Team and be responsible for the plant maintenance department and its employees.

DUTIES

Duties:
  • Develop and Manage the Site Mechanical Integrity Program to ensure the facilities equipment is properly maintained and updated to current technological standards.
  • Support Maintenance Employee Training Program
  • Development and implementation of standard maintenance procedures.
  • MOC Engineering reviews (Replacement in Kind vs. change support).
  • Ensure required testing is completed per schedule and corrective actions are completed.
  • Support instrumentation and field device specifications for procurement, function, maintenance and decommissioning.
  • Establish DCS strategy and infrastructure reliability path.
  • Leadership of the mechanical integrity team to deliver on plan objectives.
  • Complete engineering work orders.
  • Lead and/or contribute to key plant engineering projects, including
  • Scope of Work Development for Large Projects.
  • Project design implementations to maintain existing and add new capabilities.
  • Establish and maintain spare parts listings (including critical part identification and sourcing).
  • Reduce use of assumptions and expand use of support data for effective decision making.
  • Apply statistical analysis when evaluating processes, defining projects and proposing improvements.
  • Provide engineering reviews and support for Capital Expenditures
  • Ability to read, analyze and interpret complex mechanical drawings including: PFDs, P&IDs, isometrics and equipment drawings and process data sheets.
Requirements:
  • Mechanical Engineering / Mechanical Engineering Technology degree
** General Chemistry Background (min. in school)
  • Minimum 4 years of experience in relevant field of work
  • Ability to lead, influence others at multiple levels.
  • Ability to establish and implement a preventative maintenance program.
  • Effective written and oral presentation skills.
  • Strong working knowledge of regulatory requirements and constraints and ability to interpret and apply to the task/project at hand.
QUALIFICATIONS

Considered Plus:
  • Professional Engineering license
  • Familiarity using "ChemCad" process simulation software
  • Engineering degree
  • Wastewater treatment experience a plus
  • Experience in preventative maintenance programs
  • Indiana Industrial Wastewater Operator license a plus
  • Computer experience with databases such as Oracle
  • Safety experience specifically with Industrial hygiene monitoring, Hazard Communication and Process Hazard Review
  • Experience with ISO 9000 / 14000 a plus
  • Experience with RCRA regulations and TSD permits a plus
