This position supports a world class group of scientists and engineers in cutting edge metallurgy and processing of metallic and ceramic materials. The goals of this position include developing innovative system design for heating, melting, coating and processing engineering materials such as superalloys for aerospace applications; maintaining lab equipment for minimal downtime and 100% safe operation, and executing complex testing in a timely and efficient manner to deliver world class material data for the development of new materials for next generation products.
Operate and maintain complex mechanical and electrical equipment used in support of material and process development for internal and external customers of GE.
Design, construct and operate specialty apparatus for unique material processing operations.
Devise robust methods for instrumenting key process parameters such as temperature, pressure and vacuum level in experimental setups.
Direct, troubleshoot and perform routine maintenance to mechanical, electrical and computer equipment.
An AAS in Mechanical Technology with at least 5 years’ experience in a technical support role or a Bachelor’s Degree in mechanical engineering or related field with a minimum of 1-2 years’ experience in a technical role.
Experience with the principles and operation of at least one of the following systems or processes: vacuum, induction heating and melting, welding, pressure vessels and thermal mechanical processing.
Experienced in sample preparation and material characterization techniques needed for metallography, SEM.
Basic knowledge of mechanical testing techniques.
Demonstrated practical mechanical design and fabrication experience.
Experienced with computer-interfaced data acquisition systems.
Knowledge or experience with experimental instrumentation and controls.
Proven computer skills in MS Office (EXCEL, PowerPoint and Word)

Must be willing to work out of an office located in Niskayuna, NY.
Must be willing to take a drug test and submit to a background investigation as part of the selection process.
