Exponent’s Materials & Corrosion Engineering Practice has provided over forty years of services related to the investigation and analysis of products ranging from aircraft and marine transportation to all types of industrial equipment and consumer products. Our in-depth knowledge of materials, combined with unparalleled breadth of collective expertise in virtually all areas of engineering and science, is used to understand how and why materials fail in medical, automotive, construction, recreational, and other applications.

Exponent is currently hiring a Mechanical Technician in our Menlo Park, CA office. The individual in this position will be responsible for technical functions in support of the Materials and Corrosion Engineering Practice and other groups. Duties will include design and construction of test fixtures, nonstandard testing, assisting engineers in inspections, metallography, and operation of a scanning electron microscope (SEM). The individual in this position will also be responsible for maintaining the laboratory, calibrating laboratory equipment, and stocking general purpose lab supplies.

Qualifications for this position include:
AA degree or equivalent technical experience
Must be a self-starter and capable of observing and solving problems using all available resources
Ability to formulate written and verbal descriptions, conduct tests and take accurate notes for follow-up
Excellent hands-on skills and a mechanical background and ability to operate common machine tools (lathe, mill, band saw etc.)
Experience in metallography, SEM, construction, assembly, automotive or an R&D laboratory setting is a plus
Must be willing to work overtime and/or travel as needed
