The Department of Information Technologies (IT) is seeking a qualified individual to fill the following full-time, fiscal year position. This IT professional will manage the Audio-Visual/Media Services area of IT. Duties include organization and maintenance of facilities requiring sound reproduction; design technical and specialized audiovisual systems; supervise technical staff in the setup, operation and maintenance of equipment. Makes budget recommendations by forecasting labor and equipment needs; maintain and monitor departmental budget. Plan and provide technical support for conferences and seminars; order necessary equipment; assign staff and estimates costs. Coordinates with media users to determine equipment utilization and design needs; solve instructional problems relating to use of media equipment. Develop procedures and guidelines for day-to-day department operations. Evaluate equipment repairs and needs pertaining to Media Services; recommend additional equipment and/or modifications if needed; make recommendations for purchases.

This position typically requires the education associated with a Bachelor’s degree and 2 years audio-visual support experience which includes 1 year supervisory experience; OR 6 years media experience, which includes 1 year supervisory experience; OR, any equivalent combination of experience and/or education from which comparable knowledge and skills have been achieved. Proven experience with media presentation tools and techniques. Demonstrated knowledge of personal computer operating systems as related to audio-visual presentation systems. Experience with event planning and organization. Strong verbal and written communication skills and knowledge of supervisory practices and principles is required. Salary: $35,183-$42,000

Fringe benefits include health insurance, life insurance, and retirement (TIAA-CREF), and spouse or dependents are eligible for a 50% tuition waiver as full-time students.

Reports to: Executive Director, Information Technologies

Purpose: The Media Services Manager is responsible for planning and organizing audiovisual and media services provided to the university. This IT professional will organize the operation and maintenance of facilities requiring sound reproduction, designs technical and specialized audiovisual systems in response to faculty, student and staff requirements. Incumbents in this classification supervise technical staff in the setup, operation and maintenance of equipment.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities:
  • Supervise regular and student employees.
  • Make Media Services budget recommendations by forecasting labor and equipment needs and submits to Executive Director; maintain and monitor departmental budget.
  • Plan and provide technical support for conferences and seminars; order necessary equipment; assign staff and estimates costs.
  • Develop new media services and promote within campus community; develop procedures for new services.
  • Coordinate with media users to determine equipment utilization and design needs; solve instructional problems relating to use of media equipment.
  • Develop procedures and guidelines for day-to-day departmental operations.
  • Maintain and update data used in preparation of various reports submitted to Executive Director.
  • Submits evaluation and specification reports to Executive Director, to determine required sound design changes for facilities requiring sound reproduction.
  • Evaluate equipment repairs and equipment needs pertaining to Media Services; recommend additional equipment and/or modifications if needed; make recommendations for purchases.
  • Provide technical expertise to contractors, media staff and faculty regarding equipment purchases and installation.
Knowledge/Skills/Qualifications:
  • Typically has the education associated with a Bachelor’s degree and two years audio-visual support experience which includes one year supervisory experience; OR, Six years media experience, which includes one year supervisory experience; OR, Any equivalent combination of experience and/or education from which comparable knowledge and skills have been achieved.
  • Experience with media presentation tools and techniques.
  • Knowledge of supervisory practices and principles.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of personal computer operating systems as related to audio-visual presentation systems.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Experience with event planning and organization.
  • Skill in user services.
Work Environment: This is a fast-paced environment with ever changing technologies and workloads. Tight scheduling and careful allocation of resources is necessary in order to meet changing customer requirements. Unpredictability is the norm and shifting priorities and adjusting work schedules is often a daily occurrence. Most work will be done at the customer’s location which will necessitate frequent on-campus travel. Work is often in confined spaces, working in awkward positions.

Work Schedule: Normal University of Maine business hours are Monday through Friday 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. However, work outside regular business hours (to include occasional nights and weekends) may be necessary in order to complete the requirements of the position.

Supervision: Supervises one professional staff member.

Position Type: Full-time, Ongoing, base budgeted.

Schedule of Evaluation: Evaluations are in accordance with guidelines established in the Handbook for Non-Represented Faculty and Salaried Staff.
