PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:
1.

Develops, implements, interprets and evaluates an effective school-level media program which supports the educational philosophy and goals of the school and district.

2.

Supervises and maintains all ongoing

and daily functions of the school media center.

3.

Trains and supervises media clerks in the performance of their duties.

4.

Develops and administers the school's media budget in consultation with principal, staff members, media committee, and director of media services.

5.

Coordinates the selection, ordering, processing, maintenance, organization, and circulation of all media resources.

6.

Chairs the school media committee.

7.

Coordinates the preparation of all needed media reports to the principal and system-level personnel.

8.

Keeps accurate up-to-date records of school media resources (i.e.: inventory, circulation statistics, etc.)

9.

Adheres to all federal copyright law/guidelines and system-level policy.

The media specialist will serve as the copyright disseminator at the school level providing staff members with copyright information.

10.

Interprets the school media program to students and staff members.

11.

Assists staff members in the selection of media resources and other types of instructional materials and make media resources available to supplement the instructional program.

12.

Informs staff members regarding new

resources in the media center,

available courses at the DOE technology training centers, and television/satellite programming.

13.

Plans with administrators and staff members to design and implement instructional and learning experiences for the purpose of achieving system and school goals.

14.

Participates in a partnership with classroom teachers working toward the natural integration of media resources, services, and skills.

15.

Participates in school-level leadership teams and faculty meetings.

16.

Provides learning experiences for information access skills development.

17.

Provides resources for the professional growth of staff members at the school level.

18.

Weeds obsolete and worn resources from media collection.

19.

Maintains effective relationships with other school media centers and public libraries in the community.

20.

Assists staff members with technology problems and promotes integration of technology into the curriculum.

21.

Collaborates with the school-level and system-level

technology specialists in the delivery of information and technology services to provide a concerted effort in implementing the instructional and technical requirements needed

in the school.

22.

Coordinates the operation and use of instructional software, computers, local area networks, on-line services, telecommunications, distance learning programming, satellite usage, closed-circuit, and multimedia-based applications.

23.

Cooperates with the technology specialist, director of media services,

and director of technology

to conduct workshops, seminars, conferences, and training sessions with school staff to increase knowledge of hardware , software, networking, and telecommunications for successful implementation into the instructional process.

24.

Serves on the school technology committee to identify instructional needs and develop long-range technology plans of action.

25.

Provides technical assistance on troubleshooting hardware, software, networking, telecommunications, and operational/process problems.

26.

Researches and reviews new and updated technology and software. Participates in training and reads professional literature in new technologies and instructional strategies.

27.

Assists staff members in the developing curriculum resources that facilitate the implementation of the school technology plan.

28.

Accepts responsibility for participating in activities needed to keep abreast of significant developments in a changing society.

29.

Performs such other tasks and assumes such other responsibilities as may, from time to time, be assigned by the principal.
