The expanding Adult Specialties department at BID Chelsea offsite location provides clinical and administrative support for a variety of specialty clinics including (ie: Cardiology, Spine, Neurology, Orthopedics, Dermatology, Pulmonary, Hand Surgery, Nephrology, Podiatry, General Surgery, GI, Vascular Surgery, Endocrine, Liver & Urology). The medical assistant role will consist of a variety of responsibilities for multiple specialty providers and the clinical needs of their individual clinics. The duties include: vitals, height & weight, documenting patient information in WebOMR, EKG's, specimen collection and escorting /assisting patients. Scheduling follow up appointments for patients and also scheduling and coordinating additional testing ordered by the providers (MRI, Cat Scan, Pulmonary testing). Responsibilities including maintaining and stocking supplies and monitoring of expiration dates. Asssitance with some administrative duties including chart management. Will interact/communicate with several providers and their administrative coordinators.
Job Summary: Performs a wide variety of medical assisting activities during patient visits in an outpatient clinical setting. Involves extensive interaction with diverse populations including patients, medical staff practitioners and medical center personnel.
At BIDMC, a Medical Assistant in a hospital-based practice is not authorized to perform duties that can be performed only by licensed personnel, which includes, but is not limited to, drawing up medications and/or medication administration or flushing an IV.
Performs a wide variety of activities during patient visits and/or procedures. May include, but is not limited, to vital signs, height and weight, EKGs, phlebotomy, suture removal and assisting during procedures.
Performs appropriate departmental screening, lab tests and specimen collection. Implements quality control standards as required. Provides patients with relevant instructions for specific tests and procedures.
Schedules follow-up tests and appointments using hospital systems. May contact patients with appointment reminders.
Procures and correlates medical correspondences from Health Information Management, providers and administration as directed by department.
Actively assists and supports licensed practitioners by queuing prescriptions for renewal and performing the initial review of medication listings for accuracy in the electronic medical record (Web OMR). Required Qualifications:
High School diploma or GED required. Vocational or Technical training preferred in Medical Assistant Training
Certificate 1 preferred: Medical Assistant Certificate
1-3 years related work experience required.
Basic familiarity with computers. Ability to navigate at a basic level within web-based applications. Competencies:
