A non-certified healthcare provider employed by Erlanger Health System is responsible for direct and/or indirect care of patients. The employee must be able to demonstrate the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the age of the patients served in the Cardiology department. The employee will assist in the delivery of primary health care and patient care management under the direction of the physician, physician extender or nurse manager. The employee must be able to demonstrate the knowledge and skills necessary to perform electrocardiograms as directed, obtain a very brief medical history from patient and obtain and record accurate vital signs. The employee will be responsible for processing and maximizing patient throughout during clinic hours.
High School Diploma or GED
Graduate from an accredited or governed Medical Assistant program or must have passed Medical Assistant Certification.
NOTE: During an acquisition, the organization's medical assistant employees must have two years of on the job training, if not a graduate of a formal program or passed Medical Assistant Certification and the employee must pass Erlanger's medical assistant competency assessment exam.
Minimum 6 months experience performing medical assistant duties in an office or clinic based medicine setting.
Minimum one year experience performing medical assistant duties in an office or clinic based medicine setting.
Position Requirement(s): License/Certification/Registration
BLS required within 30 days of hire.
Certified Medical Assistant CMA (AAMA) required within one (1) year of hire.
Department Position Summary:
The employee must be able to demonstrate the knowledge & skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the age of the patients served in the University Health Svcs department. The employee will assist in the delivery of health care and patient care management under the direction of the physician, physician extender, or nurse manager.
Responsible for direct and/or indirect patient care. Primary duties include but are not limited to escorting patients to exam rooms, taking vitals, preparation for evaluations and/or procedures, performing electrocardiograms as directed by physician, physician extender, or nurse manager. Responsible for ensuring medical supplies are inventoried at appropriate intervals. Work closely with other employees to ensure customer focus. May assist Practice Manager with general office duties as assigned by the Nurse Manager. All other duties as assigned.
Clinical competency is evaluated annually using a variety of mechanisms. It focuses on the population-specific needs of the customers served by the staff member.
