Summary of Position

Maintains an organizational system to aid in the smooth flow of patients.

This includes following established procedures, standards of care, regulatory requirements, and the staffing and coordination of incoming and outgoing telephone communications relating to direct patient care.

Provides basic direct patient care under the direction of a Registered Nurse.

All care is provided in compliance with and according to departmental policy, which includes participating in data collection to assist in the assessment of patient and family needs, and communicates with the health care team, as appropriate.


Primary Job Responsibilities

Acts as a receptionist and able to check patients in and out.

Registration of patients.

Registration of outpatients, labs, cr and scheduled appointments.

Completion of coding and abstracting process.

Ordering of radiology exams and laboratory tests.

Accurate collection of copayments and payments.

Helps maintain accurate medical records by appropriately filing reports and ensuring completeness of documents prior to filing chart.

Patient Care Assistant

Delivers direct care to satisfy the needs of patients.

Delivers care by reflecting knowledge of nursing skills and therapeutic nursing measures related to musculoskeletal function, respiratory and cardiovascular function, bowel and bladder function, nutritional maintenance, specimen testing, comfort and safety measures.

Observes and communicates pertinent information and changes in patient's condition to the RN.

Recognizes and reports abnormal results.

Provides for patient safety through preventive measures (e.g. two patient identifiers, gait belts, bed/chair alarms, fall prevention and the maintenance of skin integrity).

Follows instructions accurately, organizes multiple tasks, and establishes day to day priorities.

Provides maximum comfort and anticipates patient needs by rounding on patience every 2 hours.

Responds appropriately and professionally to patient/family requests.

Reports concerns/complaints to RN, Charge RN and or Director.

Minimum Qualifications

Education, Training & Experience

High school diploma or equivalent. Computer skills and working knowledge of programs preferred. Previous emergency department, nursing school student, CNA preferred and/or equivalent experience.

Prior medical office experience beneficial.

Medical terminology preferred.

Must obtain BLS certification within six months of hire as able to be scheduled.

Must possess above average typing skills and ability to use information systems.

Certifications / Licensure


Required Skills, Abilities and Attributes

Must be able to read, write and follow oral instructions.

Must be able to work well with people and multitask. Knowledge in the use of select clinical equipment.

Superior interpersonal skills required.

Ability to set priorities and organize work environment.

Must be flexible, self motivated, and able to function efficiently without constant direct supervision, with ability to take directions from multiple sources and complete all tasks accurately and quickly.

Must possess strong customer service and team oriented attributes.

Must be adept with oxygen tanks and regulators, twelve lead EKG, set up of nebulizers, attaching cardiac monitors, performing blood pressures, safe operation of wheel chairs and stretchers.
