Reports to the Clinical Administrator and provides direct patient care to inmates under the direction of a Physician, Physician’s Assistant, Nurse Practitioner or a Registered Nurse.
Takes vital signs, height and weight.
Assists with PPDs and EKGs.
Measures and records intake and output.
Assists with patient treatments such as dressing changes, decubitus ulcer, and tracheotomy care.
Adheres to safety and security policies and participates in disaster drills.
Ability to deal with and respond to stressful situations in a stressful environment.
Follows security regulations for keys, sharps and controlled medications.
Follow Physician orders for inmates to receive tests and treatment as planned.
Ensure that specimens are collected as ordered and conveyed properly.
Maintain aseptic technique.
Assist physician upon request.
Be proficient in CPR and recognizing need to implement it. Receive re-certification training annually.
Maintain working knowledge of social and behavioral aspects of correctional facility, particularly as they relate to compliance with security needs while in the cellblocks.
Assist in cleaning, sterilizing and securing of equipment.
Assist in ordering supplies.
Performs other duties as assigned.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS :
High School graduate or equivalent.
Graduate of an approved Medical Assistant program with current State Certification
It is an essential part of the job that the employer can ask the employee to work beyond his/her regularly scheduled hours.
Required to work every other weekend. Shifts are rotating.
