Rendering professional clinical assistance to patients within the medical practice in support of the physician and as directed by the physician.
Working directly with the physician and being the liaison between the patient and the physician for establishing and maintaining quality patient care.
Serving as back up for front office in all areas.
Performing all duties in accordance with the practice policies and procedures.
Review charts for waiting patients.
Escort patients into the exam area.
Take and record routine element of systemic review, patient's history, present illness.
Place patient in exam room and prepare patient for appropriate examination.
Assist the physician with the treatment and procedures provided to the patient in the exam room.
Assist the physician in patient contact in providing instruction, education, and advice on routine and minor medical questions. Educate the patient in the office and on the telephone.
Proficiency in performing all routine procedures needed and required by the physician and type of practice.
Schedule appointments for specific testing after conferring with the physician and the patient.
Order refills of prescriptions within established physician guidelines and supervision and post to patient's chart.
Determine disposition of physician telephone messages daily in conjunction with front office.
Insure accurate coding for E & M visits and procedures performed.
Document in the patient's chart the outcome and information of all telephone calls.
Inventory and originate requisition orders for medical and drug supplies.
Organize and maintain medical supplies
Maintain sterile instruments and equipment and tidy exam rooms.
Maintain and adhere to all OSHA, DEA, CLIA, and government regulations.
Organize, store, and refill medical supplies and medications in exam/treatment rooms.
Perform lab and X-rays as needed.
Direct patient flow in clinical areas.
Remind physician periodically to update medical records.
Maintain budget awareness, cost containment, and quality control of all office supplies and medications.
Enhance and promote a team atmosphere favorable to the growth of the practice.
Process and charge outside laboratory tests and insure the appropriate paperwork is completed.
Monitor compliance to requests for release of medical information.
Identify problems in the clinical and medical records functions, report them, and offer suggestions for improvement.
Maintain strictest confidentiality.
Perform other duties as required or requested to insure smooth operation of the practice
Promote and practice the policies and procedures of the practice.
EDUCATION AND BACKGROUND:
Preferably two years previous experience in an Internal Medicine office.
