Data management functions in a variety of application areas; including clinical coding, outcomes management, and specialty registries. Reviews medical records to confirm diagnoses and apply appropriate disease and procedure codes. Abstracts and analyses records for appropriateness of documentation for assigning DRG. Enters data into computer system to produce documentation required for correct patient billing. Assists in protecting legal interests of the patient, hospital and physician. Data Entry, and retrieval of data for the purpose of statistical reporting.
Must pass Coding Competency Test. Productivity: inpatient records – 23-25 med/sur records, amb/sur records – 35-40 records. Accuracy rate: >97%. Must pass basic data entry skills test. Encoder experience. Spreadsheet/word processing experience. Good oral communication and interpersonal skills required.
HS Diploma or equivalent required. Successful completion of a coding program ICD-9, CPT-4 recognized by the American Health Information Management Association. Successful completion and certification as CCS, CCS-P, RHIT, or RHIA by AHIMA
Required. Comprehensive knowledge of ICD-9-CM and CPT-4 classification systems. Anatomy and Physiology. Demonstrated skill in ICD-9-CM coding conventions, UHDDS abstractions requirements and NYS and JCAHO record documentation required. Minimum of 3 years prior clinical coding experience.
Inpatient experience required.
