Medical Lab Technicians are required to maintain diligent quality control to insure accuracy of testing, continuous work flow at a rapid pace, assuring that all patient testing is completed in a timely manner, and assisting in the receiving of specimens as needed.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Performs VAP lipid profile testing using Vap instrumentation
Runs QC rotors daily to verify instrument integrity
Reviews each patient run(batch) for quality control using established criteria
Accepts/rejects patient results dependent on QC review
Pulls samples for repeat analysis when indicated
Performs daily maintenance checks; replaces reagents as needed
Reports all significant instrument malfunctions to the supervisor and Biomed Tech immediately
Tecan Pippetting Station
Performs established QC procedures daily to verify instrument integrity.
Verifies densities of reagents prior to placing on Tecans.
Sets up tubes in Tecan racks for pippetting and dilution of samples according to protocol.
Monitors equipment throughout automatic pipetting process.
Processes samples to provide a continuous flow of samples for centrifugation.
Pulls samples for repeat analysis when indicated.
Reports all significant instrument malfunctions to the supervisor and Biomed Tech immediately.
Performs testing to include analysis of triglycerides, C- reactive protein and homocysteine.
Performs established QC and maintenance procedures daily to verify instrument integrity.
Checks pending list(s) to ensure that all patient testing is completed in a timely manner.
Reports all instrument malfunctions to the supervisor immediately. Contacts service representatives directly.
Reviews and releases patient results.
Knows and Follows Safety Policies and Precautions
Understands and adheres to all safety procedures including Universal Precautions, Haz Mat and fire.
Completes and submits all documentation as required.
Complies with all Atherotech policies and procedures.
Daily Support, Follow Up, and Performance of Other Duties
Assists with the centrifugation processing of lab samples.
Assists with receipt and processing of specimens in Receiving including racking, verification of labels and transfer of specimens from tube to tube.
Performs phlebotomy procedures as skill level permits.
Performs all other duties as assigned.
The MLT position requires diligent quality control to maintain the accuracy of all testing, continuous work flow at a rapid pace, ensuring all patient testing is completed in a timely matter, and assisting in the receiving of specimens as needed. Must be able to walk/stand for long periods of time (up to six hours). Must be able to lift/carry a minimum of 25 pounds. Must be able to handle/carry lab samples without disruption. A minimum of six months lab experience or clinical lab rotation is required, with primary consideration given to candidates who are ASCP certified or ASCP eligible . Will also consider applicants with a bachelor's degree in Chemistry, Biology, or other coursework that satisfies CLIA regulations.
