The Medical Laboratory Technician (MLT) performs clinical laboratory procedures in assigned sections to detect, identify, measure and report data used in the diagnosis and treatment of disease. The MLT uses tecnhical skills, instrumentation, information systems and other resources to perform waived and moderate procedures as classified under the Clinical Laboratory Improvement Amendment (CLIA) in order to provided clinical laboratory support to all user groups in the hospital and medical community. Performs duties under the supervision of the Clinical Laboratory Scientist (CLS) or physician and may not perform high complexity testing. One year laboratory experience in an acute care facility Must have completed a two year degree program from an accredited college or university. Demonstrated knowledge of modern clinical laboratory techniques and procedures, aseptic technique and proper safe technique in the handling of hazardous materials and biological specimens. Ability to trouble-shoot procedures and instrumentation and problem-solve effectively.
