Serves as Assistant Manager of the Medical Records Department and will assume management duties as assigned when needed; supports day-to-day operations, including compliance with Federal, State and Ohio State University Privacy and Security regulations; serves as a resource and will provide performance improvement education on HIPPA and protected health information ( PHI ) security issues; reviews data within e- PHI software for accuracy and initiates corrective steps to improve accuracy when necessary; maintains up to date knowledge of current HIPAA , state and federal regulations and guidelines, college policies and procedures, and best practice methods regarding maintenance of health records and PHI ; serves as an internal consultant on health information management issues, including release of information, confidentiality, information security, information storage and retrieval, and record retention, as well as authorship and authentication of health record documentation; advises optometrists, students, staff, and patients on information regarding HIM issues; directs student employees with daily Medical Records tasks such as chart retrieval/storage, purging, scanning, quality review, release of information, and customer service; performs quality review of scanned images, communicates with users on issues related to protected health information capture, timeliness, accuracy, retention, security, access, and data integrity and assists in developing and implementing policies and procedures for Health Information Management ( HIM ) operations.

Bachelor’s degree in Health Information Management or related field or an equivalent combination of education and experience; working knowledge of electronic health records and understanding of core HIM functions, such as document management and imaging, chart completion, record retention, and PHI security; experience or demonstrated understanding in transitioning from paper to electronic health records and demonstrated knowledge of current HIPAA , state and federal regulations and guidelines regarding maintenance of health records and protected health information.

Desired Qualifications
RHIA or RHIT credential and minimum of 1 year of related medical records experience.
