This position will transcribe and type medical dictation, maintain confidentiality and integrity of records. Must have strong computer skills. Knowledge of medical terminology is preferred. DPS knowledge including OPUS is preferred. This position works closely with medical staff inside a male medium custody prison facility. Will have daily contact with offenders

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities / Competencies:

Must be able to effectively communicate with staff, inmates and the general public in verbal and written form; prepare computerized reports, correspondence and forms; operate various office machines, answer incoming telephone calls, direct callers and take messages. Work under stressful conditions caused by direct contact with incarcerated offenders who can become physically violent and verbally abusive; accurately set up and maintain files in an orderly and systemic manner. Comprehend and abide by DPS Policy.

Preference will be given to applicants that have completed educational courses specifically related to working in medical records and applicants with experience in transcribing dictation.

Minimum Education and Experience Requirements:

Graduation from high school and demonstrated possession of knowledge, skills, and abilities gained through at least one year of office assistant/secretarial experience; or an equivalent combination of training and experience. . . .
