Position is located at Pender Correctional Institution, an adult male prison facility located in Pender County. Position will have daily contact with offenders. Duties and responsibilities include, but are not limited to, typing, medical reports, filing, appointment scheduling, telephone duties, preparing statistical reports, reviewing medical records for completeness, maintaining medical records on site in a confidential manner and performing clerical functions as required in compliance with the requirements of the Health Care procedures manual. Position ensures all records are initiated, processed and transferred in a correct and timely manner.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities / Competencies:

Essential job functions include, but are not limited to, effectively communicate with staff, inmates and the general public in written and verbal form, prepare typewritten and/or computerized reports, correspondence and forms. Position will need to operate various office machines, answer incoming telephone calls using good telephone etiquette, direct callers and take messages as necessary, work under stressful conditions caused by direct contact with incarcerated offenders, accurately set up and maintain files in an orderly and systematic manner. Position will provide assistance with overflow work as requested, comprehend and abide by Adult Correction policy written and verbal form. Must have the ability to hear, talk, grasp, and do finger and repetitive motions. Must be able to adhere to policy regarding confidential issues. Must have strong computer skills, must be able to work independently and with little instruction. Accuracy is required in maintenance and management of medical records and applicant should possess knowledge of medical terminology and experience in organization of medical records and associated filing systems. Position will order, track and maintain adequate levels of medical supplies.

Minimum Education and Experience Requirements:

Graduation from high school and demonstrated possession of knowledge, skills, and abilities gained through at least two years of office assistant/secretarial experience; or an equivalent combination of training and experience.
