The Medical Science Liaison (MSL) will represent Healthpoint and its wound management product portfolio by developing relationships with critical stakeholders, including but not limited to, healthcare professionals (Vascular Surgeons, Dermatologists, Podiatrists, and other specialists, as appropriate) in addition to key healthcare decisions makers, clinicians, academic institutions, and managed care organizations. In a non-promotional manner, MSLs will respond appropriately to unsolicited requests for medical and scientific information by engaging in timely, fair-balanced and objective discussions on the science and disease state principles to support Healthpoint’s current and future pipeline products for wound management.
Location: You must reside in or around Kansas City or St Louis area for this role.
Summary of Essential Job Functions
Meet regularly with office based management to execute plans designed to meet science and clinical support objectives while remaining compliant with all regulations, internal as well as those by outside agencies. Track activities using supplied software solutions. Be fiscally responsible with HPB budgets, travel and local expenses to meet HPB policies.
Serve as a resource to internal functional areas of HPB. Serve as a member to cross-functional HPB teams on ad hoc basis, as required.
Represent Healthpoint as a science based, leading specialty pharmaceutical company in the area of wound prevention and tissue repair/regeneration therapeutics; deliver fair-balanced disease state clinical and scientific presentations to healthcare professionals in response to unsolicited requests for information on the science behind HPB’s products. Conduct oneself in a professional, effective representative of the HPB Medical & Clinical Affairs organization when providing value to medical thought leaders and key stakeholders.
Build long-term peer relationships and establish rapport through science based product and disease related discussions that are in keeping with current therapeutic concepts, and which support the safe and effective (compliant) utilization of Healthpoint’s products.
Participate in corporate-led advocacy development process by building, developing & maintaining professional relationships with local/regional/national wound care/tissue repair subject matter experts through appropriate scientific exchange of information and knowledge; facilitate the transfer of knowledge from these individuals to other physicians, clinicians, and advocacy groups. Identify opportunities to partner with individuals whose knowledge and expertise on disease state specific initiatives supports HPB; where appropriate, foster local and/or national research and education opportunities.
Maintain thorough and up-to-date knowledge of disease state, clinical information and product data within the wound care and tissue management arena and HPB’s product line; maintain expertise in relevant areas of industry regulations, basic and clinical science pertaining to HPB products.
Create education and presentation materials in support of internal and external customer needs. Ensure materials comply with regulatory guidelines and HPB practices through internal review processes.
Support HPB organizational elements through sales training and appropriate field activities.
Represent HPB at professional meetings, investigator meetings, congresses, local symposia and partner-sponsored meetings including grand rounds, departmental meetings, and physician practice meetings.
Provide peer-level medical leadership and support to facilitate the Investigator-Initiated or Phase IV Studies and Grant Management Processes as defined by internal SOPs.
Minimum of a Master’s degree in science, public health, and nursing from an accredited College or University, although a Doctoral degree in medicine, pharmacy, chemistry or a life science is strongly preferred.
Minimum of 3 years of applicable work experience relevant to the essential job functions, inclusive of work as an MSL in the pharmaceutical industry.
Knowledge of cell science, growth factors and/or chronic wounds is strongly preferred.
Knowledge and compliance with all OIG, ACCME, FDA, AdvaMed, and PhRMA guidelines / regulations is required. Knowledge of wound care and drug development desirable.
Capable of formulating credible scientific presentations based upon literature, input from internal and external experts, and own experience.
Excellent oral and written communication skills and interpersonal skills
Ability to manage professional relationships.
Must be able to travel a minimum of 50% (could be up to 8 overnights per month).
