Medical Science Liaison
A mid-size, high growth Biotech Company is expanding its Medical Affairs department and has a need for a Medical Science Liaison to cover a small portion in your area. This dynamic drug company commercialized its first product in only their fourth full year of business and achieved profitability shortly thereafter. They specialize in the discovery and development of breakthrough therapies for the critical care market, and currently have four marketed products and 13 different projects in various stages of clinical development.
The MSL will work primarily with commercialized therapies for cardiovascular disease, as well as with developmental compounds. This is an opportunity to develop expertise in the rapidly evolving area and to call on and interact with some of the leading thought leaders in the world. In their “high-science” culture, the MSL will be given a great deal of independence in their decision making, so they need someone who can think analytically and thrive in a fairly autonomous environment.
The MSL will be responsible for the clinical education of cardiologists, pulmonologists and hospital pharmacists, and although you will support the sales organization you will not be responsible for promotional or selling programs. The main duties include presenting clinical information for in-line products and emerging data for developmental drugs. You will be meeting with medical thought leaders in academic centers and teaching hospitals primarily, presenting information in one-on-one meetings and in public forums; a great deal of public speaking is required.
The MSL will also identify and develop advocates for the company for speaker programs and formulary decisions, providing them with literature searches, slides and other clinical information. And as our new compounds move through the clinical research process you will work closely with Principal Investigators to develop study protocols and advance their research interests. The geographic responsibility will include the leading academic centers and teaching hospitals in very small and manageable regions; overnight travel for the position is estimated at 25-35%.
