The Augusta Charlie Norwood VA Medical Center is a two-division Medical Center that provides tertiary care in medicine, surgery, neurology, psychiatry, rehabilitation medicine, and spinal cord injury. DUTIES:
Work Schedule:
Irregular Tour of Duty: 4:00 pm - 12:00 am; Mid - 8:00 am; 8:00 am - 4:00 pm; includes weekends and holidays.

Location of position: Downtown & Uptown Division, Health Administration Service Line

  • Scheduling, canceling, re-scheduling patient's appointments and/or consults.
  • Entering no-show information; monitoring the electronic wait list; preparing for clinic visits.
  • Monitoring both inpatient and outpatient appointments for areas of responsibility.
  • Performing basic eligibility, co-pays and preauthorization requirements for specific coverage (i.e., TRICARE, sharing agreements, etc.)
  • Processing all emergency and non-emergency transfers to other VA facilities or private hospitals.
  • Verifying and updating demographics and insurance information.

Citizenship

: U.S Citizenship is required (Noncitizens may be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens).

Experience and Education

:

(1) Experience - six months experience of clerical, office or other work that indicates the ability to acquire the particular knowledge and skills needed to perform the duties of the position.

OR

(2) Education - One year above high school.

OR

(3) Experience/Education Combination - equivalent combination of experience and education are qualifying for entry level for which both education and experience are acceptable.

Physical Standards

: Must meet the physical standards established for this position.

English Language Proficiency

: Applicants appointed to direct patient care positions must be proficient in spoken and written English.

AND

Time-in-Grade

: Applicants who are current Federal employees and have held a GS grade any time in the past 52 weeks must also meet time-in-grade requirements by the closing date of this announcement.

For GS-05

: you must have one year of experience equivalent to the next lower grade level (GS-04) or 4 years of education above high school. Examples of qualifying specialized experience include: scheduling, canceling, re-scheduling patient's appointment and/or consults; entering no-show information; monitoring the electronic wait list; preparing for clinic visits; monitoring both inpatient and outpatient appointments for areas of responsibility; ensuring encounter forms are completed in order to obtain appropriate workload credit; verifying and updating demographics and insurance information; processing all emergency and non-emergency transfers to other VA facilities or private hospitals; performing basic eligibility, co-pays and preauthorization requirements for specific coverage (i.e., TRICARE, sharing agreements, etc.).

GRADE DETERMINATIONS

:

In addition to meeting the basic requirements, applicants at this grade level must demonstrate the following (KSAs) knowledge, skills, and abilities. If selected for the position KSAs need to be completed on plain paper, with a narrative description of experience, education and training as related to each skill.

You will be rated on the following Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and Other characteristics (KSAOs) based on your application for this position.

1. Ability to operate computerized programs and databases in order to enter, modify and retrieve sensitive information/data into or from electronic medical records, scheduling systems and/or reports.

2. Knowledge of basic medical terminology.

3. Ability to make appointments in a clinical setting.

4. Ability to work independently in the accomplishment of a wide variety of duties, including setting priorities and coordinating work.

5. Ability to communicate effectively and professionally with employees at varying grade level.

6. Ability to identify customer's concerns, perform the tasks required to resolve the issue accurately and timely, and follow-up as necessary to ensure a satisfactory resolution.
