JOB SUMMARY

Performs and monitors a variety of laboratory testing and analysis; and assumes responsibility for problem resolution, quality control, and routine equipment maintenance with minimal supervision.

PERFORMS MODERATE TO COMPLEX LABORATORY ANALYSIS TO CONTRIBUTE TO THE DELIVERY OF QUALITY PATIENT CARE.

*Performs laboratory analyses within scheduled timeframe.

*Accurately records and clearly communicates results.

*Recognizes and takes appropriate action on results that deviate from guidelines.

*Recognizes and takes action on abnormal (critical) results, and documents notification of appropriate staff following established policies and procedures.

*Demonstrates knowledge of proper specimen collection, processing and handling techniques.

ENSURES LABORATORY QUALITY CONTROL PROCEDURES ARE FOLLOWED AND EQUIPMENT FUNCTIONS PROPERLY.

*Ensures highly accurate quality control records.

*Performs routine calibration and preventative maintenance on instruments and equipment, in accordance with established guidelines.

ASSISTS IN MAINTAINING INVENTORY LEVELS, EQUIPMENT AND INSTRUMENTS.

*Helps to maintain adequate stock of supplies as requested.

*Performs routine calibrations and preventative maintenance accurately as participation is required.

*Assists in the evaluation of new techniques, procedures and equipment as required.

*Recognizes equipment malfunctions and technical problems and, using scientific principles, takes initial steps to resolve these situations.

FULFILLS CONTINUING EDUCATION AND/OR CERTIFICATION REQUIREMENTS TO MAINTAIN REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS, AND SHARES TECHNICAL KNOWLEDGE WITH NEW EMPLOYEES AND STUDENTS.

*Takes responsibility to understand and complete professional and technical requirements and provides Scott & White with the necessary documentation on such requirements.

*Demonstrates and educates laboratory principles (which may include methodology, specificity, sensitivity and specific factors that could impact results) and technical skills to others on a regular basis and in a professional manner.

*Achieves satisfactory ratings on proficiency testing results.

PERFORMS DAILY WORK ACTIVITIES IN A PROFESSIONAL AND ETHICAL MANNER.

*Understands Scott & White Guiding Business Principles and applies them to daily work activities.

REGIONAL LABORATORY DEPARTMENT SPECIFIC STANDARDS

DEMONSTRATES ABILITY TO MEET OR EXCEED REGIONAL LABORATORY PERFORMANCE SPECIFICATIONS.

*Demonstrates acceptable venipuncture success rates.

*Demonstrates manual data entry skill with an error rate at or below acceptable standards.

PERFORMS OTHER POSITION APPROPRIATE DUTIES AS REQUIRED IN A COMPETENT, PROFESSIONAL AND COURTEOUS MANNER.

QUALIFICATIONS

Experience:

Minimum one year experience preferred.

Education:

Bachelor's degree required.

Certification:

Certification as a Medical Technologist through ASCP, AMT, or HEW required.
