PURPOSE AND SCOPE :|
Supports FMCNA’s mission, vision, core values and customer service philosophy. Adheres to the FMCNA Compliance Program, including following all regulatory and division/company policy requirements.
Working independently, performs a wide variety of moderately and highly complex tasks and analysis of human fluids and tissues, using manual procedures as well as operating various laboratory equipment and automated analyzer systems.
DUTIES / ACTIVITIES :
CUSTOMER SERVICE :
Responsible for driving the FMCNA culture through values and customer service standards.
Accountable for outstanding customer service to all external and internal customers.
Develops and maintains effective relationships through effective and timely communication.
Takes initiative and action to respond, resolve and follow up regarding customer service issues with all customers in a timely manner.
PRINCIPAL RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES :
Demonstrates knowledge and understanding of clinical laboratory principles and procedures within his/her department, and is able to perform each test as required.
Demonstrates knowledge and understanding of Quality Control principles and procedures and ability to apply such knowledge to maintain high standards of quality.
Helps to ensure efficiency and productivity by having the ability to assess and monitor the production status and coordinating own and/or group tasks to meet the standards.
Demonstrates and applies knowledge and understanding of regulatory requirements, e.g. OSHA, CLIAA, NRC, where applicable.
Operates, maintains and troubleshoots laboratory equipment (from small laboratory appliances to automated and/or interfaced instrumentation).
Reviews and edits results of testing, decides which results can be released and which results need to be verified or take other action on.
Demonstrates in-depth knowledge of his/her own specialty/specialties and clinical laboratory functions, and takes an active role in teaching and training other technical employees.
Demonstrates basic computer skills related to Laboratory Information Systems.
Monitors and manages supplies (ordering and inventory).
Acts as a technical resource within the department, and helps to resolve problems associated with protocol, equipment, interpretation of test results, systems interface, etc.
Acts as a technical resource for the department, and helps to resolve problems from Specimen Entry, Customer Service, MIS, Quality Assurance and other departments.
Have ability to develop and conduct investigational studies/experiments, test validations, method comparisons and a variety of process improvement projects.
May supervise the work of Medical Laboratory Technicians, Specimen Handlers, Clinical Laboratory Technicians and Specimen Entry Operators.
May direct daily operations of the department during temporary (brief) absence of the Lead Technologist or Supervisor, if Supervisor-qualified.
Performs other tasks and special projects as assigned by the Supervisor.

BS(MT) or BS(MT)
or a minimum of 90 semester hours
or equivalent in an accredited college or university and the successful completion of a course of training of at least 12 months in a school of medical technology approved by the Council on Medical Education of the American Medical Association,
or BS degree in one of the chemical, physical, or biological science and one year of training and/or experience in medical technology,
or any combination of academic study and training and/or experience outlined in Section 58 of Title 10 of the New York State Public Health Law. (as required by CLIAA, HCFA, State of NJ, CA, NY)
EXPERIENCE AND REQUIRED SKILLS:
Level A Medical Technologist 4 or less years experience in a highly automated, high volume laboratory
Level B Medical Technologist 5 to 9 years experience in a highly automated, high volume laboratory
Level C Medical Technologist 10+ years experience in a highly automated, high volume laboratory
Strong technical background
Knowledge of good laboratory practices and Regulatory requirements (CAP, CLIAA, OSHA, etc)
Strong analytical and problem solving skills
Good interpersonal skills
Ability to work in a multi-cultural environment
Good written and oral communication skills (documentation, record keeping, presentations, etc
